I got 3 dwarf rainbow fish yesterday and quickly found out I had 1 male and 2 females, these are great fish and fun to watch eat, they do well in groups of 3 with the company of 3 serpae tetras, 3 pristella tetras, 1 rainbow shark, and a assassin snail, this combination is great for 10 gallon tanks=D

Can you put them in with glowlight tetras and cherry barbs? What is the smallest number of Dwarf Rainbows you can put in?

Kassidy - how are things going with your Rainbow combination? I'm planning on getting 3 Dwarfs this weekend, and it seems like they don't recommend mixing sexes if you're going to only have 5 - I don't plan on having more than 5 as I only have a 29 gal. Thanks for any information!

Is there a difference between the Millenium Rainbow and the Red Rainbow? There seems to be some common information in both writeups. I bought a pair of Red Irian Rainbows recently. they are both doing well - one male, one female. However, the male very much resembles the description of a lone Red Rainbow "without a female to display to the males will be a dull dusty brown". The female looks exactly like the picture of the Millenium Rainbow. Any clues what is going on?

I just wanted to let you know that in the paragraph describing the coloration of the boseman's rainbow fish the colours are described backwards. It says the front half is orange/yellow and the back half is blue when it should be the other way around, front is blue and back is orange. The pictures clearly depict the correct colour pattern but the text is just backwards. Just wanted to let you know, thank you for reading, Danielle

Dr. Jungle says, "Thanks Danielle, you rock! I think I was seeing cross-eyed that day... :)"

Thanks for the info! I know now that rainbows like to jump out of tanks, so now I make sure that my aquarium tank is closed now!

Thank you for that information. I wish I had read it earlier - three of my rainbows jumped out of the tank and I was wondering why :-(! Thank you so much. Sujanie:)

I have had my dwarf neons for about six months. The are great fish. Their colors get brighter with age. They are a lot of fun to watch. I have 3 males with 1 female in a 20 gallon tank. I know this is not a normal male/female stocking ratio, but my female seems to be doing quite well. The males will make advances at her for a few minutes in the mornings when I turn the aquarium light on. She doesn't pay much attention to them anyway. Beautiful fish and enjoyable to keep.

I have one Parkinson's rainbow in my community tank. He is very active and zips around like no one's business. He is not aggressive to any of my fish, but I think he annoys my 13 year old corydoras who thinks he isn't a bottom fish at all...Then again, if I could find something that did not annoy that old man, It would be a miracle. Anyway, back to my rainbow. His name is Sol, and he has dark yellow fins with black outlines and purple scales. Yeah, purple... or at least, purple-esque, lol :p They really are nice fish to have! they adapt to new tank life quickly and are hardy little things.

I Love my rainbow fish! I have 6 of them (3 males, and 3 females). They look so cool, it took me awhile to figure out what kind they are but it turns out there the jewel banded rainbowfish. They're really funny when I feed them, they splash when they eat cuz they kinda jump at the food. I keep them in my 30 gallon tank with 4 hatchetfish, 4 leapord catfish, and 1 paradise fish. They're all really happy together!

My dad said he'd buy me a few fish, but the catch is, they have to be long lasting and I must be able to look after them right. So I thought I could try having some rainbow fish, all I want to know is, are they hard to look after and how much & where can I get them?
