I’m far from being knowledgeable in the computer world but still learning. I’m uncertain on how to ask questions on this site. Can someone direct me to the proper way to navigate through? I have several fish and two large tanks and three small tanks and my favorite fish of all that I have are the shubunkins. I’ll get into details later when I’m able to submit questions. I enjoy reading the questions and answers especially about the shubunkins

I had a pair of these, I LOVED them!! My tank is heavily planted and they were always so romantic together. However my local water, even after filtration had a slightly higher pH than what is listed here and is harder and they did fine, very healthy especially when my tank turned into a jungle. However I decided to do a change in scenery and when I redid my tank, took out several plants, removed duckweed, changed filter, my nitrites spiked and they both died while the other fish survived. Even though I did a 50% water change, a week after the tank was changed. I didn't check water chemistry as frequently as I should have. They are delicate but well worth the extra maintenance. In the future, I plan to purchase more, I will be more careful.

I am sorry. It is aggravating to go through so much work and have this happen. You sound like you know what you are doing though so keep it up.

Can the rainbowfish live together with goldfish?

They can if you filter are doing their job and you are extra diligent in the tank maintenance. Goldfish produce large amouts of amonia which is toxic for most fish in large amounts.

Bosemani rainbow question: I'm an experienced keeper, considering making some tank changes. Need to know what is reasonable for adult Bows concerning tank size. They're 4 to 6 years old.

How many are you planning on keeping. They need a bit of space. 30 gallon will be good for 3 or 4. They need the length to swim.

It's me again. Would love to know what tips anyone would have to entice these two to spawn, the male is certainly eager to :)

Found this quote on another website. "An egg layer, Glossolepis incisus spawns throughout a number of days over moss. The adults should be removed after spawning and the eggs should be raised and hatched separately. The fry should be fed very small live foods."

You need to sort of replicate the flood season.  Try adding some cooler water. Lots of plants and heavy nutrient rich feedings.

Hi -6 months ago I set my 4 ft tank up with rainbows , I was given 4 large Red Rainbows, which I enjoy watching swim about as if they are dancing,
but I don't know which are male and which are female.?

Read the attached article on Rainbows from Animal World. The mature males will be much redder. Their back is more arched and they will often be the more territorial sex.

These fish are great! My local fish store had one lonesome Madagascar Rainbow, so I bought him and he is a delight. Begs at the front of the tank, very active, very agile almost acrobatic..and most of all, very peaceful. He lives in a 95 gal with 7 Boesmani Rainbows, tetras, gouramis, loaches etc. I have been looking for more, but with no luck, They seem to be pretty rare.
