You broke the cardinal rule of stocking. All fish of the same species must be kept singly or in a school, preferably 4 minimum. Brackish fish, in particular, will kill any new tankmates of the same species, especially juveniles, especially if there's only one or two. Adding one fish to an established school might work, or vice versa-- adding a school to be with a singly kept fish.

I have had the Green Scats two different times. They are a very enjoyable fish to have. They eat out of your hand and even have a personality much like the Oscar's do. Both of mine were about 5 inches in size and would even let me pet them. I lost them due to a power loss in the winter time. Very hard to find any of this size, most always they are very small. They are very cheap if you order them from a dealer in Thailand 100 at a time. If you get them, you will always be glad you did.

i have owned one for about 2 years. he was a nothing you can see with your own eyes but now he's beautiful, healthy, and growing everyday. slow grower but worth the reward. His parent's were wonderful and the only reason I bought him or her. very lucky, I got to have the pick of the litter, would send picture's if i could. One of top show fishes I love right, there with the frontasa, longfin oscar, and arrowana. I have them all in my 180 gallon. WONDERFUL MIX, WONDERFUL TANK. thax for listening

While these fish are a joy to have outdoors, they are susceptable to many dangers if mixed with koi, which produce far too much ammonia. As well, the larger they grow the more they require brackish water. This is usually obtained when water is 1.010 (1 tablespoon aquarium salt to every 5 gallons water) I have found that a 35+ gallon tank(55 gallon) is a good "only" tank that is prepared using a crushed coral or sand substrate (dont bother with "live" sand, your salinity will be too low to keep it that way). They like warm conditions as well, 78-80 degrees F. preferred. The younger fish around 3 inches or less are more comfortable if they have Plants around the surface of the water. Mangroves (as they are their native habitat) are best, as well as Java Moss. Both these plants thrive in Brackish water, that excludes most common Aquarium live plants.

Fellow tank mates can include Figure 8 puffers, Knight Gobys, Mudskippers, Scats, Mollies, and fiddler crabs, as well as some other brackish friendly fish. Again, this is not a freshwater fish, so use caution if you tend to want a community of fish that are readily available from your local fish store. But by the same token, these fish are so entertaining and expressive and unique that building a tank around them is a true hobbyist adventure.

my gold datnoid is 5.5-6 inches long. he is very mellow. if you think that there might be a chance that the fish with him will fit in his mouth, even if only by a long shot, dont put it in there because chances are it can. if it can it will be put in there when your not expecting it. these guys are great fish to own. mine eats other fish, shrimp, and small soft shell cray fish
