I finally found a place that is not sold out of archer fish and I am thinking of getting some. I would like to breed them but I hear it has never been done before. Some people think it is because they go to saltwater to spawn, I think they would go to freshwater, so maybe I could get a brackish tank with a few of these and slowly change the water to slat and let it stay for a while then slowly change it back to brackish wait awhile, then slowly change it to fresh then slowly change it back to brackish then repeat every 2 months until it works. Will this work?

    It might work.

Don't do that it will make the fish get diseases very easily. You can try but I can't make sure it works.

I kept mono's in my fishroom before, but not for many years. Yesterday, I came across a deal in my local fish store that I could not pass up. I bought 12 small mono's for a very low price. They are about the size of a quarter dollar coin and all appear healthy and active. I'm now in the process of moving some other fish out of a 125 gallon aquarium and rearranging it to suit the mono's. I'll keep them in freshwater for now - my well water is very hard (12 dGH) with a pH of 7.8-8.0. I'm considering adding a large group of mollies for dither fish, and maybe some small synodontis cats for clean up. I'll probably plant part of the tank moderately heavy with vallisneria which will hold up well to the mono's nibbling and even to the addition of low salt levels later on. Today I fed the mono's some raw boiled zucchini and later some live brine shrimp - already they are VERY eager eaters and their schooling behaviors are delightful! I'm looking forward to watching these guys grow and thrive in their dedicated system and hopefully will enjoy several years of their presence and activity in my home.

Normally you can go to a pet shop and have them order you one. I wouldn't go to a change. Try a smaller store that just deals with fish.

Can they be added to salt water tanks? I was told to get one to eat the aiptasia so if yes do you just dump them intop the salt water from fresh water?

They can slowly be brought into to salt water as they mature.  Start by addind a little at a time.  Make sure to test the salinity, keeping levels from moving too fast or getting too high ang shocking the fish.  I wouldn't just dump it it.  Mixing it in the water during water changes.

S.O.S. Monodactylus. Hi guys. 2 months ago I bought 6 small monos in my discus tank. Yes I know. Discus are a pacific guy and mono are speedy guys. Respect between them, normally... But I tried ... They eat good but somedays one of them runs erratic movements like drunk and in 24 hours died. 3 weeks after another one of them too. And another... What is the problem? Ph 6,7 and temp 28C. The aspect of 3 others is very good and eating very fine, like discus. Please, some ideas?... Thanks! Ciclopexx@hotmail.com

That's a bad mix. Discus need a PH of 6.4-6.8 and soft water. I use 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gals of water. The Mono fish need a PH of 7.8-8.2 and hard water. 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gals of water is a good start for Mono fish but it will need to be much higher as they grow.

I have six of these ranging in size from 12cm to 25cm. They seem to be very hardy and I keep at 26c. Very aggressive live feeders. They tend to hang back from smaller fish and lunge suddenly. The mouth is truly huge when fully projected and can cantelever some 5cm on occassions. A healthy fish will have well defined gold with black bands a clear tail fin. Fish that are not healthy will have black patches in the gold and a blackish fin. The colour seems to correct quite quickly in the right conditions.

I currently have 2 Green and 1 Red Scat in my 5 feet tank. They're in freshwater tank with aquarium salt not sea salt. Been keeping them with parrot fish whom the salt is intended for. The Scats are around 3-4 years old. Size is about 4-5 inches. The Green ones seems to grow nicer as adults then the red ones. I also realise the red ones grow way faster than the green ones. They are easy to feed and these 3 are always schooling together. So far I'm not sure when to start moving them to brackish cause they're still fine and growing in the tank. So far so good.
