oh!! these fish are great. i bought 2 on sunday 2006march26th. I've only had them for few days but they are so cool! Since they breed like rabbits i'd prefer the female to be alone when its pregnant. I have them with playties and guppies [no swordtails] and all those fish mix right in! Anyway, these are great fish!

I had a male betta that I was really attached to. He died last week and I was very upset. I knew I wanted more fish but I didnt know what to get until I saw the red platys. I picked up 3 platys and 1 female betta. The platys are beautiful and peaceful fish. The female betta was fine with the platys the first day. But than became very aggressive with the platys. She would chase them constantly. I had to remove her and put her in her own tank. Now that the female betta has her own tank, I am going to get more platys. They are so sweet and so pretty. I dont know what other fish they habitate well with but I defiantly dont recommend bettas!

We Just recently Purchased our swordfish for our kids. the lady at the pet store said that they would be good for the kids. we bought 3, 2 females and 1 male and we brought them home and I noticed one of the females belly looked really big so I called the pet store and she told me that if she is pregnant then I need to come and get a breeders net and put in my tank in case she has them so the other fish in the tank won't eat them. I thought I had some time so I went and got the breeders net came home scooped her up in it and within 2 minutes she was having babies. I couldn't believe within 20 minutes she had 30, then in an hour she had 10 more. I was shocked. I continued to watch her because I was told she would eat them also, so I kept my eye on her. it was so exciting after 3 hours of Labor and delivery she had 59 Babies. so sad that 12 of them didn't make it but we still have 47. It was such a wonderful thing for my Children, to see but then I had to go out and get a bigger tank and now we are watching them grow. it has only been 3 days but we can tell they have already grown I know we can't keep all of them so for my son 1st grade class we are going to give each child one when they are ready to be seperated. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXSPERIENCE FOR US!

I had bought a few swordtails. One of them had babies. They were born the day before Valentines. I like watching the babies swim around. I want to watch them go up. That would be neat to raise your own baby fish.

Guppies are extremely easy to keep, but be sure not to feed them to much or they will die from eating too much (once i accidently let too much feed get into the tank) if you introduce new fish to the tank make sure that they get a equal share of food as guppies tend to eat extremely fast. Although they are good community fish, they will occassionally team up and start to peck at newcomers, they managed to frighten my dwarf gouramis (who is thrice as big as them) and constantly kept my chinese papua (did i spell that right?) loach on the move, after a while they left them alone. Come up with a way to feed newcomers should the guppies eat all the food, eg. my gouramis couldn't eat anything, since my gouramis couldn't get any food, and my guppies were use to eating from the surface, i sank some feed into the tank letting the gouramis feed.

We have a powder blue guppie, very pretty fish, and we added 2 black moor's to the tank. We were told by the person working in the fish department that they could co-habitate . . . well . . . guess what didn't happen. That little tiny guppie killed one of our new black moor's. So . . . they aren't that community friendly. Just be careful what you put together in your tank.

I LOVE GUPPIES and have 7 aquariums full of them. Today I am setting up a 55 gal. aquarium so I will have room for more babies! I now have beautiful blues of all types also fantastic orange ones with black bodies and baby blue top and bottom fins that are so pretty. Guppies are fun to breed as you can come up with many different colors and you can, with their help, create a new line of your own. I used to sell them to pet shops and might do it again. This is a fun hobby for people of any age and I highly recommend it.

i have a ten gallon tank for breeding guppies. although they say they will eat small fry, i never take out the babies and i still have lots, to many anyway. the only fish in there that has ever eaten a baby was a sword tail that died. but its offspring are still alive today, and breeding. but i must admit that the guppies are not big, maybe an inch or so, including the fin.

I actually bought 6 assorted colored balloon mollies. I have never owned such interesting fish. They enjoy the entire tank. Two days before Christmas, I awoke to 23 fry. All are still healthy and active, but when they get a little bigger, I am going to have to get another fish tank, lack of space and all.
