I have had tanks from 20 - 40+ gallons and tall to long. Pearls are my favorite for sure. I have come across an aggessive male or two, but they are the exception not the rule. Likewise, I have seen some quite shy. Typically, they are great community fish and real beauties. Feed them some worms occasionally and watch their colors come to life.

Pardon my french, these fish are not all they are made out to be!!!! Sure, they are pretty, but attitude? ARG!!! These fish are not ALL peaceful and serene, I actually bought a quite violent and tempermental one, which happened to kill a guppy of mine, and to this day has been after my platies. I love these fish, they are beautiful, but the one i ended up with was ANYTHING but timid.

I have one dwarf male gourami and one female yellow gourami. The yellow female never stops attacking the dwarf gourami. I have 3 platies in the tank as well and one of the female platies is also chasing the dwarf gourami. I am worried about the dwarf. It seems that this fish is extermely timid even for community tank. I would appreciate any comments.

I have one Betta fish and i think they are awesome.
They come in a lot of different colors and they are easy to look after.
The one i have is dark blue and i have named him dookie.
So any way if you are reading this and you want to get a pet the Betta pet fish would be a great pet for you.

I must admit that I was surprised to find my male Red Flame being aggressive...no one in the fish store said they would be. I have had gold, blue, opaline, etc and they never were. I thought only the Kissing Gouramis were aggressive? He is chasing every fish in the tank. I have a female Red Flame and 3 Black Skirt Tetras too and I am rather irritated at it. One of my black skirt tetras tails has been chewed and he chases the female all the time. She stays hidden in the fake log we have until he chases her out again. He was chasing her away from feeding and the tetras, but not as much as her, last night. The tetras chase each other some too but not like this male. He is a big coward too, panics every time we come near the tank.

I have a 40 gallon tank. I have a flame, Pearl, Blue and Neon gourami, with neon tertas, daimyos, penguins and they seem to get along fine. The chasing goes on once in a while and so far all the gouramis are safe. I just had an initial problem when one of the flame gouramis would chase the other one. I provided a pot into the tank and it became a good hiding place. Another trick is to provide plants (Artificial plants from Tetra will also do). Most of them find a hiding place in the plants and they get a breather from the aggressive ones. This worked very well for my community aquarium.

We have an Opaline Gouramis and every single fish that we have put in the tank with him, he has managed to mutilate, killed two,and just last night tore the eye out of another one. Needless to say, the fish man was wrong when he told us they were a community fish. Sure they are, if its a community of serial killers! As my husband was removing him from the tank tonight to take to my son-in-laws tank, where he will be with bigger and badder fish then he,(he will probably leave them all terror stricken and battle scarred, too), I decided to get online to find out what we apparently do not know about the blasted things. So, based on our experiences, unless this guy is just a mutant killing machine, I would not put one of them with anything else but possibly a shark. And I am not even sure a shark could defend itself against this guy!

I have 2 cinnamon dwarf gouramis (which are a different color variation of the dwarf gourami) along with 1 paradise gourami, 2 black skirt tertas, 2 plecos, 1 dwarf suckerfish, 1 african dwarf frog, 1 female betta and 1 male platty in a 10 gallon tank(i know its a little crowded but im thinking about getting an 18 gallon soon). The dwarf gouramis get along great with other fish and usaully stick with eack other. These fish are great additions to any community tank with smaller fish.

I had 4 Dwarf Gouramis and a bunch of Tetras in a 100 litre tank with a lot of plant cover. The Dwarf Gouramis exhibited a considerable degree of aggression towards each other, and established some sort of pecking order, but generally ignored the Tetras.

Some hobbists have commented that Dwarf Gouramis are temperamentally unpredictable; they may or may not establish hierarchies.
