I was thrilled to read the comment from Kenneth on 4-25-05 about him putting his two male Betta's together in a 29 gallon tank and they became best friends. I too have two gorgeous royal blue males (I think) and am tired of having separate tanks so tomorrow I will try and combine them in my 45 gal tank wish me luck. Charlotte 5-11-05

I have 3 Blue Gourami in a 30 gallon tank. Two are about 3 inches, the other 4 and a half. I also have 6 neon tetras, 2 penguin tetras, a redtail shark, 4 red eye tetras, 4 glowlight tetras (i think that's what they are, lol), 3 algae eaters, 1 red platy, and a 6 inch Plecostomus Catfish. Added each new fish type at least a week apart. Started the tank about 9 months ago, took time to get the water right, chemically. Fish stopped dying after the 2nd month. The last addition was about 5 weeks ago. No deaths to report as of yet. I've been feeding both floating flakes and sinking pellets for the bottom feeders.

I know everything says you cannot keep two males together but, I have 2 males in a 29 gallon tank, and yes they sort of flared at each other for a little bit but, I kept an eye on them because I would have taken one out if they had of gotten mean toward each other. They just lost interest in the flaring up and are best buddies in the tank and they will be side by side and eat and swim together and there are no fights yet. This may not be in all cases but is working for me. I have another in a 15 gallon aquarium that is just too lazy...he just sleeps in the weeds in the top part of the aquarium.

I just recently got my first betta fish..it is so cool! Every time i come into the room and put on my light it swims around all fast and gets really excited. Once i got him home he was eventually transfered into a big fish bowl and was very excited and would swim non-stop around the bowl. I would recommend this fish to anyone.

I recently bought a pair of pearl gouramis. They hid behind the plants for the first few days. I decided to turn down the bubbles in my internal filter until there was almost no surface ripples. Immediately, they started to explore the tank and swimming with my bala shark and barbs. They are great fun to watch.

Im not familiar with this red-flame type, but raised two lots of honey gouramis a couple decades ago. The males were awesome looking, with an indigo-blue colored throat patch that would display in courtship, with a deep red-gold tint to their fins. When startled (which was often, they ARE cowards!) their entire coloration would pale out to a pale yellow.

i have a 125 litre tank with quite a mixture of community fish. i added 2 opaline gouramis which constantly chased each other, then one died from an internal bacterial infection. the one that was left was quite quiet until i added 2 boesmani rainbow fish which he proceeded to bully and finally killed. i think these fish need to be in a small shoal of about 4, this is the only way any of the other fish can live peacefully!!
