No fish has ever attacked my one-and-only Pearl since the first day. He was shy at first, probably for four days. Now, he is all over my 60 gal tank frolicking with the rest, and always one of the first in line for food. He had a strange quality about him at first, until I got used to looking at him. He is not my favorite fish, however. I love my Red Flames and Powdered Blues, especially when they do their pseudo-wardance.

I purchased three medium sized blue gouramis yesterday and placed them in a 55 gallon tank with two red velvets, two golden molly's, two fairly large bala sharks, three medium sized black angel fish, three bleeding hearts, and 9 various tetras. The guy at the pet store told me that the gourami's would do great in the tank...well he is right! They went NUTS when I walked by the tank and almost came out of the water! They are very aggressive fish. Mine are tending to stay behind my plants and leaving the others alone. EXCEPT...one of my tiger barbs is dying as I type. He has been beaten up pretty bad and I am trying to do everything possible for him! The gourami's may be finding a new home...back at the pet store!

Before I found this site I wasn't sure on what fish I should get. My little brother has a Paradise fish, and I was going to get one as well. Now I have read this site and all the positive comments I know that I'm going to DEFINITELY get a betta ASAP!!!

i have kept snakeskin gouramis with keyhole and curvicep cichlids, anomolochromis thomisis, african catfish, ctenopomas, and goldfish with out them getting in a fight.

a very beautiful fish. i had two pairs from an aquatics warehouse and thought the world of them. one month later both pairs had died. i only had the one tank at the time and the people at the aquatics warehouse gave me what i now see as bad advice. within two weeks of putting them into their new home they began mating. the males became rivals for the females attentions and began building bubble nests in the surface plants. once they finished they went after the females curled around them and the females released their eggs and the males their milt then the males collected the eggs in their mouths and placed them into the bubble nests. at this point they become aggressive, driving off other fish and protecting the nest with the eggs. they also hounded the females to death causing both to die suddenly from stress. i learned you should remove the females to another tank after mating. the males hounded each other when the females died and i lost both. a lesson learned the hard way. research before you buy.

Two of my Red Flame gouramis bullied my three angels and Red Flame and Powdered Blue gouramis, but less than a week later, after the others settled in, the two bullies stopped. The others fought back. The thing is no harm was ever done; it was all a show, at least it seemed to me. The interesting this is that these two never bothered the Pearl Gourami. Nowadays, I am more concerned about my greyish-blue angel because he has become the super bully of the bunch, and he nipped off 1/2 of one of the antennas of my golden angel's. The golden angel, on the other hand, bit off a portion of the bottom fin from that greyish-blue, perhaps to assert his rights. While the third angel is standoffish like an angel should. It's all beyond me. The curious thing is all my gouramis chase each other, including the angels, but no harm happens. It's more like a dance, and it's actually fun to watch. By two in the morning, practically all of the gouramis even cuddle up in their silk (plants) nests.

We have several Gourami in a 55Gal Tank. They seem to be friendly to the other fish but sometimes the golds go after one another. other then that they are fairly peaceful and beautiful fish, We have them paired with 2 Pleco, Mollies, and platies. they would make a nice addition to any aquarium

I have 1 Gold Gourami, 1 chinese algae eater, 2 tetras, 1 black ruby barb, 1 green tiger barb, 1 african dwarf frog and i just got an opaline gourami and they are getting along fine.
