Kyle Morrissey - 2013-04-17 Why do gold fish carry so much lomonia

Clarice Brough - 2013-04-17 Limonia is actually a tree. Are you trying to say ammonia? That's a condition that all aquarium fish create (food and fish waste breaking down... creates ammonia). Goldfish put a heavy load on the aquarium so do create a lot of ammonia. And of course, ammonia has to be dealt with through filtration and/or water changes (as with all fish).
liz111 - 2013-04-17 Hi, I've been a fish keeper for just 3 weeks so all new to me. I have a red cap oranda and a calico. Today I noticed the red cap won't stop chasing the calico which appears to be swimming away from him the whole time. What is the red cap doing this for, is it normal? Non stop for at least an hour and half now. I feed 6 tiny pellets in the morning as advised by the pet shop. What are your thoughts on that also? Many thanks.

Clarice Brough - 2013-04-17 Yeah, that's a problem. If he keeps chasing the other fish, the other fish will succomb to stress, quit eating, and have major problems. Here's some things to alleviate the condition: get a bigger tank, add hiding places and retreats by providing plants and other decor (driftwood/rocks/etc.), add more fish to divert the attention and change the dynamics,.. and if none of these work, remove one of the fish and put it in its own tank. Best of luck!
bernadette - 2013-04-03 I have an oranda fish. He seems to be sitting on one side of the tank and its always the same spot. He comes up for food then swims around a bit. Then goes back to the same spot. When he comes up for air he blows the air out then goes back to the bottom of the tank. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Clarice Brough - 2013-04-08 There may or may not be a problem as it sounds like he is feeding and not stressed, but sometimes these fish can have a swim bladder problem. Make sure the tank is well maintained with regular water changes, and you can try feeding a supplement of frozen peas (defrosted with the skin removed).
sandra elkin - 2013-02-13 Hi I have 4 orandas, two gold and two white, the white ones seem to spend a lot of time at the top of the tank its a Biorb - when I go up to the tank they come and dance for me. The gold ones don't seem to go to the top as much but one of them spends a lot of time hovering on the bottom. Is this normal behaviour.

Jasmine Brough Hinesley - 2013-02-13 Hmmm... it could be normal. Does he seem to be eating and swimming normally? I'd just keep an eye on him. As long as he's eating and doesn't show any symptoms of illness there is probably nothing to worry about.
ananya roy - 2013-01-11 recently my cousin gave me an oranda goldfish about 3' long, its flowing fins and tails all being nipped short by a parrot fish and an oscar,(i was mad when i heard that he had kept the poor goldfish with those totally incompatible fish, but the damage was already done!). now it has minimum fins, though it can swim about quite well. it has become friendly with my other goldfishes as well. i feed them flake foods, frozen blood worms and dried tube worms .my question is will its tail and fins grow back? it was originally a cross breed of veiltail and oranda and it had a beautiful flowing tail.

Clarice Brough - 2013-01-11 The tail fin should grow back, as long as the caudal peduncle (tail base) has not been damaged. It may not be as decorative as it was before however, you'll have to wait and see on that.
Brandon Taylor - 2013-01-02 I just bought a large oranda, I think he is about 2 years or older. He is about 5.5 inches and has a large wen. His wen covers his eyes and as much food as I have givin him I am concerned he isn't able to see the food and isn't eating. Any suggestions ? I'm using goldfish flakes. -thanks! :)

Sue Potter - 2012-09-13 My 2 Orandas share a 12'x14' x 5' deep pond with a 4' waterfall with 14 butterfly koi and 2 Ryunkins. We live in the Tacoma, WA area. Will they be able to survive the winter in hibernation with the koi?

Jeremy Roche - 2012-09-14 Thet should be fine if the pond has movement and doesnt freeze solid.
lynn - 2012-11-12 Orandas don't do well under 60 degrees
Micky - 2012-06-06 Hi. I read that oranda and black moor eat the plants. I would love that if they enjoy them and if they are not nocive to my gorgeous oranda , what kind of a plant should I have in my aquarium? I have a variety of plants and they don't touch them

Valerie Vanderberg - 2012-09-22 My Oranda Marlene is just plum crazy, she knows my voice and then does her happy dance all over the tank, I have walked up to the tank not saying a word, she quickly recognizes me and does her dance. She throws gravel at me, hates the tank themometer, knocks it all over and down, suffers from severe feeding love. However she is very orange and the color orange is slowly going down her large fantail. Her wen is raspberry red, but she is so orange. tank mates include fantail goldfish which is pinkish silver, friendly as well, 2 zebra angels. Much Joy in my tank.

Kathy Webb - 2012-11-04 My Oranda's tail is doing the same thing and I was hoping for an answer here. I guess I will be searching, this happened all of a sudden shortly after I bought my 2 baby fancy calico gold fish.
The Oranda Goldfish is like a Veiltail Goldfish but with a bit shorter tail, and develops a hood similar to the Lionhead Goldfish!

is it normal for an oranda goldfish's wen to be bigger than the goldfish its self
Yes it happens. Every fish is different.
