I have 4 fantails one is extremely large now. They seem to stay static for quite a long time. I nearly threw one away once as I thought it was dead dying, but they swim quickly away when you go near the tank. Are they just resting,

These fish do tend to no t move as much as most.  Check water levels, but they are probably acting normal.

I had 5 baby fantails. I've lost one.. I thought it had swim bladder by the time I returned back from the pet shop he was dead.. Now another is going the same! Just as I returned my black tip one started acting the same.. floating, not eating! I thought maybe fan rot? as he's had it 4 days!!! I've tried everything!!!! The shop said they r very small and I really shouldn't of been sold them this size! They r about 2cm full length.. My water is fine shop tested it also.. I've given peas and not fed for 2 days.. the salt thing I just don't even know what is causing the problem to fix it!!! The shop think it's as they r so young.. but all fish were once this young...

Just got a fantail for my 17 month old, but everything I read says they are cold water fish and it is usually like 75 - 80 degrees in his room. I am wondering if that is ok.

I love my Fantail, he/she is definitely one of my favorites, I have quite a collection of fish going right now, but my Fantail is my favorite to watch and he/she is just so gorgeous! This site was very helpful. I didn't know much about them. He/she will get very good goodies in the near future!

A dip or bath in Mebromin. There are other dips out there depending on fungus.

You are changing the water every 12 hours? That will cause a lot of stress and not give the tank time to adjust.
  • Maeve - 2012-05-17
Don't change the water every 12 hours, it will stress the fish out!

I have a Orange Fantail Goldfish and a Calico Fantail Goldfish. My Orange one is the oldest. I have been watching them and my smaller one chases my bigger one. Now the bigger one is at the bottom of the tank. He/she is still breathing fine just wont leave the bottom of the tank. The smaller one has been under the bigger one. Then leaves to eat then goes back....should I worry? Do anyone thinks there's something wrong with it?

This happens sometimes when they are constipated. If it is try feeding it a frozen pea. This will get its insides moving again if that is what it is.
