Would looking at freshwater fishes, tetras and barbs, through a magnifying glass be harmful to the fish? My uncle is blind and after lots of looking my fish show signs of ich, just wondered.

I have had a Nicaraguan Cichlid for about 3 years, never any health problems. She developed what looked like mouth fungus so I treated her on Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday with Maracyn & it resolved. Now, on Saturday, I wake up to find her pale, standing in her head & gasping (bottom of tank). There is a male in the tank with her (got them together) & he is fine.

I have a spotted plecostomus, fairly 2 inches long (small) and new (bought him 2weeks ago), who I noticed had a red spot on one of his fins, but he wasn't exhibiting any symptoms, eating normal for about a week now... And today, I noticed a whitish cotton growth around the area of the red spot which seems to fall under a possible fungal infection... But before I could treat the fungal infection, I need to treat the initial cause of the fungal infection which is the red spot which I don't know what it is... Can anyone help me?

It's possible there may be some sort of parasitic infection, the fungus is a secondary infection feeding off the dead tissue, it could be being caused by skin flukes, best thing to do is take it to your local aquatics specialist and let them have a look they can then advise you on the best course of treatment.

What is the best way to disinfect a tank and filter system after its been infected? I've lost all the fish, and they had dropsy and ulcers( that I know of, maybe more). I want to start over but don't know how to safely clean the tank.

Best thing to do is just drain it and let everything dry out for a few days, just remember to cycle your filters properly before setting back up with any new fish.

It may not need any treatment, sometimes goldfish can simply change colour as they age, I've had black ones turn orange and white before.

I have a 2 year old female Angelfish, it is about 3.5 inches and in the last month I noticed a bulge that protrudes on the right side of its body in the center. There are no damaged scales, my fish is still eating normally and swimming fine and doesn't seem to be in any distress. Does anyone know what this could be, is it an enlarged internal organ, parasite, or disease? And what can I do to try and help this fishy out.

It's possible it could be a tumor, but it's also possible it could simply be constipation, try altering it's diet for a few days, feeding blood worms for a couple of days should help flush out any problems, however if it's a tumor i'm afraid there's nothing you can do.

We have a pond with koi and comets. The comets are varying ages from 1 yr. to 3. In the last week we have lost 9 comets. At times they are at the top of the water doing what looks like gasping for air. Then at times, they look like the are sleeping on their side. Don't know what to do help?

My Goldfish is 2 years and a half year old now and he has been healthy for the last half a year, today, which means these defects just grew visible overnight, I see that he has cloudy eyes, 2 red streaks in his fins, white dots on fin, and his scales on one side of his body seem to have clear white skin hanging all over it, and it is kind of red too. What could be wrong?
