I have a tiger barb tank. 6 total. (4 regular, 2 green) used to be 3 green but one died. Poor thing. I miss him. I know they say you can mix green and regulars together but since day 1 my regular ones have been picking on the green ones. Striker could of been the cause of the one green one that died. I call my mid size male tiger Striker because that's what he does - goes around and picks on everyone. I put in a bigger male in there and Striker still wins and bullies the other fish in the tank. Of couse I can't give him up because he is the nicest looking fish in the whole tank. Brightest color and most active. I have a red tail shark in there too and Striker loves to piss him off... he picks on him then Thor (Red Tail) chases all the tigers around the tank. Its pretty funny. Striker is such a little devil. The algea eater believe it or not is the most aggressive fish in the tank and he looks the goofiest lol. My talking catfish stays out of sight most of the time and doesn't care about anyone in the tank...

Anyway, tigers are awesome fish... they are little clowns... very nice to look at... just need to watch out they dont go ape shit and kill one another... is better to keep them in larger groups like they said... I'm gonna pick up 2 more tigers for my tank... to make the total 8.

I have had a hard time with Tinfoil Barb in the past couple of months. Every time I clean my tank they will die. I lost two the first time thought it was something that i had done so I did some research on cleaning the thank with the type of filter that I have. Just yesterday I clean the thank did not use any chemicals at all and lost my last three. Any comments on what happening or did anyone have this happen to them and what can I do. Thanks Chris

What I do with mine is I let the water evaperate on its own and when its 20 percent gone I fill it up with treated water and clean out the filter every time it needs to be cleaned. They are hardy but mine tend to stress during this time so don't put them under a lot of stress
hope you have some better succes if you deside to get more
    sorry for your losses though

It's the water it has to be almost the same temp as well as chlorine free. Get a bucket put a drop of prime everytime you fill it up. They are being stressed so put something in the way to catch the water so you wont have a big splash

    Hello,

If you have a tiger barb, you can tell if it is a male when the mouth is tinted an orange/brown color. Females typically have no specific markings in this area, so it's easy to separate them. Right now, I have 4 tiger barbs, but have bought them with the intention that I would be buying a goldfish as well. Too bad I found out I couldn't mix the two after I bought them. Oh well..

Noelle, your male green barb has more reddish coloration around the cordal and pectal fins, the females are black. The females are also slightly larger and rounded in the belly. Yes you can breed your green "moss" barbs, but they must be in a 20 gallon planted tank. Put in about 2" of marbles at the bottom so the eggs can fall through and do not get eaten by the parents. As soon as the eggs are laid, take the pair of barbs out and place them in their normal tank. The fry should hatch in about 25 hours.

My first tropical fish. they are pretty easy to keep with other fish but they nip on fins and that sucks. they killed my mollies, pleco, and sharks. Pretty good eaters and fast swimmers avoiding predators, but they will become the predator.

I have 2 Green Tiger Barbs and 2 Tiger Barbs. They are the only fish in my tank, is it important that I get more of them, or do you think they should be ok? I've only had them for a few days but so far they seem to be ok!

Scrolling up it says they do best in a school of six but you don't have to rush out and get two more.

They should do fine. The reason it is suggested you keep more is to diffuse any aggression as they are notorious fin nippers.

Today (13/01/07) I added the blue danio to my community tank. At first their spashing startled me, but I have since come to love to watch and listen to them. Thanks for your comments on this page which has helped me to better understand the blue danio's behaviour. They are my best buy yet...

I have a school of giant danios in with my piranhas. I have 3 red-bellied piranhas and 6 giant danios in a 90 gallon tank. They're fast enough that they're safe, and they do really well in there. I just found about 300 fry in there, yesterday, so I've moved as many fry as I could catch to a separate tank.

I have about 50 of these little guys in a 32 gallon and they are insane. Together they get along well with 2 boseman rainbows, 1 austrailian rainbow, 2 roseline barbs (my fav's), and 7 golden white clouds. Heavily planted, they have so much fun swiming through the plants & wood; 8 mossballs (giant) at different levels off the wood & plants, with plenty of flow.
