I've had a CAE for awhile now. I would really really not recommend them for anyone who cannot provide a separate living space when they get larger. They eat tons of algae when they are small but when they get older and larger their diets completely change mine now prefers "meatier" foods over algae or any other vegetable based food. And if you do plan on putting this fish with other species make sure it is fast enough to get away or it will be a snack to this guy/girl.

I'm a starter aquarist. I'm only 12. I have three tiger barbs and they are so happy. I take very good care of them and their tank. For their roommates I also have three sail fin mollies and an algea eater. They are very friendly but you want to keep them in groups or they are quiet and scared {they hide alot}. But when they are with buddies they are a load of fun to watch. They are fast and exciting fish. I have a 10 gallon tank in my room. I put all of them in and they love company. Ifeed them breakfast, lunch, and dinner and they are very happy and comfortable. Their names are dash, stripe and quickster and they are a wonderful starting fish. They are very hardy and they really make a hobby grow, so the tiger barb is recommended =]

I have had a Chinese Algae eater for a couple of months now and I tntroduced him into an aquarium with my Betta (bad idea). The algae eater started out OK, but now he constantly attacks the Betta. It seems that wherever the Betta goes to hide, the algae eater seeks him out. Also, I keep my aquarium plenty warm but he does not seem to keep the tank very clean. I just cleaned it tonight and there was algae coated on everything.

I have a tank with two bala sharks, three mollies, four feeder fish, two barbs and one tiger barb. They are both 4 inches. I've only had them for a week, but it's great to watch them swim and chase each other. I love bala sharks a lot. Ever since I saw a bala shark, i could never get over them.

Tiger Barbs are my most favorite fish. Their stripes are really cool. I love to watch them swim in my tank. I feed them tropical flakes and keep the tank clean. They get along with my other two Highfin Tetras good. They are also like vacuum cleaners. I love Tiger Barbs! I hope to find out what other people like about them.

Don't let the Bala Shark fool you. He is swift and calm for the most part in the tank but he does like to dominate. I had no ideal he would do what he did but I bought 6 neon tetras to add to my 75 gallon tank and a rainbow shark. They all seemed to be getting along ok all day. The Bala was curious about the tetras but did not seem to hound them. The next morning I got up to feed them and 2 of my neon tetras vanished. The Bala shark ate them. He is the only fish big enough in my tank to do this. He looked quite pleased and content as to say "Thank you for the great meal". My Bala shark is about 6 inches long and thanks to his tetra hunger a little fat in the belly for a week of so.

I just bought a school of nine! I was in the market for a school of large fish to add to my 75gal which previously only housed a butterfly pleco, a Jack Dempsey, and a mutt-african cichlid. I don't have quite enough space for their full grown size, so I am now committed to buying a larger tank for them. But I couldn't resist all nine. When I saw them at the store they occupied only a third of the 30gal they were in because they schooled so tightly, seeing that there was no way I could break them up. Currently they get antagonized a little by the african, but the Jack acts as a sort of bodyguard. On that note I have noticed they do not get picked on (and in fact chase the antagonizer off) when the light is shut off. Perhaps good to note for those of you about to introduce them into a mildly aggressive tank. Enjoy their activity, but remember they are skittish and even their own reflections trip them up. Happy fish keeping!

I've noticed that my green Barb will turn a shimmery green when he is happy or being fed. He turns a dark rich black when he is fighting with the other barbs and doesn't want to back down, and will fade out in color almost instantly if my water isn't the perfect condition or if he is stressed. My tigers fade out or brighens up too, but not as drastically as my green.

I have the Glofish Zebra's, 4 of them. I think the Glofish are neat. My 4 Glofish are in with my 3 Glowlights, my 5 neons, and my Clown loach and everyone is getting along fine.
