I have had several throughout the years. I have had good luck with them. I have noticed some agression, but nothing that would hurt my fish. I had all smaller fish too. One tank had Guppies, bettas, neon tetras, corydoras catfish, a red tailed shark, & 2 Algae eaters. The algae eaters did their job & when the algae was low I fed wafers. I fed Shrimp pellets to the corys & I noticed a few times they would eat them. They do grow really fast. I had one grow an inch in a very short time! I think they do better with bigger tanks, but I have had them in 10 gallon tanks before & they lived several years, but didnt get near as big as the others in my bigger tanks did.

We have a 20 gallon tank with 7 longfin tiger barbs, 3 dwarf gouramis, 1 angel fish and 1 pleco. The tiger barbs swim actively in the tank and are not making any harm to our angel and gouramis. During feeding our tiger barbs are very smart at snatching food so that before the other fishes start their meal there will be nothing left. These are the fastest eaters I have seen.

These little fish are mean! I had one and not only did he kill off four of the other fish in my tank, he jumped out and managed to land under an electrical outlet. Talk about frightening! I won't clean under my tank stand anymore... I make my dad do it!

I would NOT suggest these fish for a small tank unless they are all you are going to be keeping.

These fish can somtimes be harder to take care of than they look. Once I had around 5 goldfish in my tank and 2 tiger barbs. I had to feed the tiger barbs tropical fish food and my gold fish gold fish food. It took me about an hour every day and by the time the tiger barbs died I only had one goldfish left.

I got 3 of them. They eat like madfish and they are very quick. 2 of them swim together and I found the 3rd dead about 2 weeks after I got them. I was on my way out the door when I saw it so I couldn't pull it out. I came back about 2 hours later and it had about 4 holes in the side of him. The definitely go carnivorous on each other even at a small size. Otherwise they are great fish to watch, and they go great with plants

A word to the wise: CAEs are terrible tank mates once they start getting comfortable in their new surroundings, especially for goldfish (which tend to be slow swimmers). I originally got mine (a golden) thinking it would help keep the tank cleaner. It did its job for the first two months, and then suddenly began getting more and more aggressive. I had to isolate him before he did any damage. They sure are pretty for an algae eater, but I'm afraid that's about all the good that I can say for them.

I have a 55 gal tank. It is quite the relaxing thing to watch. I have 9 tiger barbs, 4 green 3 albino, and 2 tigers... also I have 2 ocsars, 8 guppies, 2 plecos, 1 algee eater, and one blue dragon. It is my own tropical ocean in my living room. All the fish get along and seem to do just fine with each other. Hope the rest of you enjoy them as much as I do.

I have had four of these fish in my ten gallon tank, they are very beautiful fish! They are very peacful to the other fish, and they are not very shy if you have plenty of plants in the tank. These are definitely some of my Favorite fish!

I have had two bala sharks for two years in my 75 gallon aquarium together with 2 albino hammer head sharks which are about 10 years old. Six months ago I decided to put them in the pond since the hammer head grew so big that the aquarium leaks frquently. The bala shark does not jump off the edges of the pond and I dont think that they eat live fishes since I added lots of swordtails and mollies. They bred rapidly and the bala shark does not eat the small ones. The bala sharks are good in community tanks.
