I have 4 of tiger barbs in my 30g tank. They are very lively and fun to watch. One thing I have noticed about tiger barbs is how fast they grow. I initially bought 5 from the store when they were the size of a dime. Now they are all at 3" long and are very full bodied. My other one, in case you're wondering, jumped out of the tank after a week. I keep my tiger barbs with 2 kribensis, a flying fox, 3 orange serpae tetras, and an upside down catfish. Everyone gets along great. I would recommend tiger barbs for anyone interested in keeping a fun and lively fish.

SAE's and CAE's are not the same.
SAE's are Crossocheilus siamensis and CAE's are Gyrinocheilus aymonieri.

CAE become very aggressive and lazy. SAE's is what you want to eat blackbeard algae and other stubborn algaes. Beware of buying the false Siamese. Look for the black strip to run the full length of the tail on the true Siamese. The false Siamese black strip ends where the tail begans.

Great information. People often confuse these two fish. We hope that by reading the description of these two different species (under the distribution section), people will understand the differences and get the one they want. This comment should also help!

I love to keep these cute little Tinfoil Barbs. I have 5 of them and I feed powder baby fish food. I mix them with Ghost Shrimp. Sometimes they try to eat one of the Ghost Shrimp but it's mouth is very small. I love to watch themto swimming around and I hope they grow and grow in adulthood.

I just bought 10 of these guys from my favorite local fish store, only 8.99 for all 10! Plus I love these little guys! I added them into my 55g tank which already has 3 red minor tetra, 3 black platinum tetra, a PowderBlue Dwarf Gourami and a Dwarf Red Gourami, and catfish. I wanted a smaller type of fish to inhabit the open water areas of my tank near the top. Perticularly on that would school. And these guys fit the bill! My tank is still young so I wanted a hardy choice also. The school really well and are fun to watch. Very fast and they like the current. Sometimes even swimming right thru the filter output. Be sure to cover your tank because these guys like to jump and are quick. I was worried about my tetras nipping or even eating the smaller danios but no problems yet. One thing I noticed is that the introduction of the 10 danios has seemed to send my Gouramis into hiding. Even more than before. But we'll see! I'd say all in all a great choice for any community tank!

You can absolutely not put any barbs with goldfish. Goldfish should only be kept with other goldfish.

Hi, I just bought 3 rosy long finned barbs and 2 gold ones. I have 2- questions: The gold ones have fat bellies they look like their pregnant! How do I know what they look like when there pregnant? And the other question is, can I have them with discus fish?, because they seem to be a little aggressive especially at feeding time?

i just bought two of these fish for my 250L aquarium he's about 10 cm and is happy with his 6 cm friend, 3 mountain minnows, 3 neon tetras, a hopplo catfish, a black ghost knife, a bristle nose, a molly, 6 phantom glass catfish, and a 12 cm peppermint pleco. They are realy great fish and they eat black algae which almost every other fish won't touch.

Chinese Algae Eaters are commercially produced in the Far East, and are available in a few different colors. The suckermouth is for attachment to the substrate, not feeding on algae. Their mouth coincidentally resembles the suckermouth of many true algae eaters, but the Chinese Algae Eater does not earn the name. It is a very ineffective algae eater, even at its best when small, and becomes more and more interested in attacking its tank mates for a mouthful of scales or fin than accepting a veggie diet.

This fish is apparently easy to propagate in huge numbers and so has a profitable mark up compared to fish that actually are algae eaters.

I just bought 3 Sumatra Barb yesterday. I like their colors & fast moving, but it seems 1 appeared a bully. He keeps on chasing the other 2 which I doubt could stress the weak ones. By the way, I keep them on my 12 gallon tank with 5 Rosy Barb in it. I hope they will be in harmony for the coming days of staying together.
