My "fish guy" at the pet store informed me that my orangy fellows live approx. 90 years! Heck, I can see the look on my kids face when she reads my Will - Daughter gets the blood red parrots. I wish I would be there to see the look on her face.

I run the aquatic centre at BIRCHGROVE GARDEN CENTRE, PINCHBECK,LINCOLNSHIRE,ENGLAND (SEE OUR WEBSITE WWW.BIRCHGROVEGC.CO.UK). I would consider the parrot fish to be the best cichlid that i have ever come across.
My pride and joy is a four year old blood red who will never harm any of his tank mates not even the neons that he lives with.
Over the last two months i have been getting shipments of assorted parrots which have come in many colours all of which i have made my own names for and asked customers to call them by these names which are: NEON BLUE PARROT, PINK NEON, CORAL YELLOW, TURQUISE,and the BLEEDING HEART.
Yes i heard about how they get the colour but i believe that this does not effect them in the long run.
I believe the parrot fish to be the best fish to put in your tank if there is trouble between other fish because they soon create order in the tank and become the boss.

Texas cichlids have the same doglike characteristics as an Oscar if they are fed a good diet and given good water conditions. Mine is about 6 inches total and I have had him for 3 years. He is also one of the most beautiful aquarium fish available. My wife says it looks like he has green jewels all over him. Mine is not as aggressive as stated here, he gives a display (fins all the way out and shaking , as other cichlids do) but doesnt usually follow through with violence.

I have had a jack dempsy for a while. he is in a 55 gallon tank and in this tank i have 1 6in buttycawfree, a 4 in buttycawfree, a 5 inch red devil, and a 6inch jack dempsy. I feed them spectrum food which i have found to be the best food on the market for smaller fish. If you have an aggressive jack dempsy and would like to attempt to tame it you should move it too a larger tank

I have recently got myself a Blood Red Parrot Fish, he is such a pleasure to watch in the tank. although he is very shy he can also be very nosy. A good addition to my collection, I like them. But today i put a load of snails in the tank for my clown loach, and my Parrot decided to eat almost all of them. I know they eat anything now including snails.

I have had a Jack Dempsy for about nine years now and i can say that he is the best pes i have ever bought!!!! Although he is very aggressive he will not let any fish in his tank except this sucker fish which is a lil bigger then he is. He has a spectacular color probably the coolest color iv ever seen. I would recommend this fish to any one!

I have one heart parrot that is a beautiful pink. He or she is mixed with a variety of fish including a fermosa, roap fish, angels, silver dollars, irridescent sharks, red tail shark, gourami, butterfly, spotted catfish, and clown loaches, in a 35-gallon hexagon tank. They all do unbelievable well with each other. The only problem that I have run in to is that the heart parrot is the biggest in the tank and the biggest pig too, it eats most of the food and the bottom feeders usually do not get any, I have had to hold the parrot back while feeding others. Another odd behavior I am noticing is that it digs holes in the gravel pellet by pellet with his mouth, but has not laid any eggs, this happens every other week or so and it does get a little territorial during this time.

I enjoy these fish very much. I have three tanks, one in which 5 large parrots live with a couple of large cat fish. One with medium size parrots that love to swim in formation. A tank with small parrotfish who also hang together. They love frozen brine shrimp and come to the front of the tanks when I feed. They also like premium flake food and will eat the algae tabs I put in for the bottom feeders.
