Hi i had two red oscars and i bought them about a year and a half, they were like only 3 inches long and i feed them with blood worms. Now one of them is like 24 inches long and the smaller one is like 21.5 inches long. Boy i love feeding them, the bigger one can jump out of the water and eat the food. they had laid eggs before, usually when i feed them with fish(heavily), but i don't get it when the eggs dissapear.

I have had an electric yellow cichlid for about two years now. He was adopted from a friend who had a larger male that was beating him up. I had a fake wood log in my tank that he would hide in for the majority of the day. I recently removed this log and rearranged my tank. Within a few days I started noticing burrows because he cant hide in the log.
This is by far my favorite fish and can have quite a personality at times.

I have three 3 inch blue moorii mixed with many other fish in 55 gallon tank. They are so cute and beautiful! I can't wait until they grow up to be even more beautiful! Rumor said that they are slow in growth rate, but I dont care about that as long as they live happily and healthy. I will love them forever!

We purchased 2 Fronts at a local petsmart. approx $4-7.00. They are beautiful however they do get LARGE quickly. Ours outgrew our 30 gal tank in about 6 months. We gave them away when they were about 7-8 ins long. Beware also if your smaller tetras seem to disappear. we could not keep neons in numbers, they kept disappearing. Also the fronts were always pulling up the plants and moving rocks. I feel they would be happier in larger tanks.100-200gal.

Hello aquarium people! I have a 55gallon tank with a variety of fish.
2 blood parrots,1 silver dollar, 1 ever-expanding pacu, 1 firemouth, 1 needlenose gar, 3 monos, 1 yellow lab african cichlid, 1 painted tetra (the oldest guy in there!), 1 jelly bean parrot, 1 convict, 1 jack dempsey, 1 green severum, 1 cray fish at the bottom, and i think that's it. I know it seems like a lot but most of them are still growing.
THE MAIN THING I WANTED TO SAY is that my blood parrots rule the tank and more than hold their own with the rest of the fish. I'm tired of hearing the same old false claim that these are "timid" fish and "perfect targets" for other fish to harrass. They have been trying to breed but no luck yet. I don't really expect their luck to change anytime soon either.

Lemon Yellow Cichlids are NOT peaceful! They are very, very aggressive. I have two that I bought blindly from Walmart. Within two days (if that) they had eaten two White Clouds and some tetras (my fault for mixing the fish). They are only about an inch so imagine all the damage they could do if they were bigger! I have a new cichlid of a different sort still floating in the bag waiting to be put in. The Yellows are circling the bag and attacking. So...peaceful? I think not.

i have just today become the owner of two of these lovely fish.
it was very hit and miss with info from the shop, they sold me two so called females but on looking on this site I think that debatable. never mind that, I am looking forward to seeing them settle in with all my other community fish. thanks for your very good info in easy to understand terms.

"Must be some kind of African cichlid, sure is pretty though."
was what i heard from an employee at a local petshop. Since he
couldnt find the exact name or price for this pretty lil fish,
he wrote it for a whopping 2 dollars. After researching the shape
and color variations it had to be the Salvin's cichlid.
I keep him in one of my 29 gallons with a black shark, a green terror, 2 convicts, a jack dempsey, a bristlenose, and a common pleco. He is one of my favorites already.
