Have 5 Yellow Labs recently transferred from 25 to a 33 gal. tank. I don't know why, but they seemed happier in the 25 gal tank - swimming into plants, harassing my 2 Corys and digging trenches in the gravel. The only occupant they (esp. the intensely coloured male) respected was my big kahuna of a Pleco. Perhaps, they are still adjusting to the new surroundings. I've arranged about 7 caves in their new home using Peridodite, Obsidian, and Sandstone, - and one hunk of Malaysian Driftwood. I hope I've not lowered the pH too much (by using the wood) since they LOVE HARD water. I'll try to add a few more snails for them to munch on. However, I still have to find a guideline to differentiate between the sexes, since the eggspot can reside on both Male AND Female...

I had two Red Devil's. The first one died right away. The second was pure white and lived for almost a year. Then I had a power outage in the winter and his/her tank was in the basement. Needless to say he didn't make it. He was the best fish I've ever owned. LOTS of personality.I had sand and marbels in the tank with my white devil. He use to move all the sand and marbels to the side until he hit the bottom glass panel of the tank. I'd move the sand back and he'd go at it again. When I had him I didn't have a "real" aquarium hood then so I used a desk lamp to see him at night. In the summer the lamp would attract bugs. He'd try to jump out of the water to get the bugs and bang his head on the hood.

If you're a person who wouldn't mind keeping a AGGRESSIVE fish that will attack you when you do water changes, needs to be kept alone (unless you can provide a huge tank 90+ gallons), and enjoy MAJOR personality this fish is for you.

hey i just got my oscar's about three months ago(pukey&rayray)unfortunatly pukey was beat up by rayray and did not recover. now it's just him and a blue acara who i fear is going to be eatin up by the oscar when i get my new tank which will allow him to grow much larger than the blue acara but i will deal with that when the time comes. other than that they are lovable energetic fish which if not watched and taken care of can be very messy. also they eat alot including smaller fish that they can swallow

I have had a red devil for about 7 months. i had him in a 10 gallon but he quickly out grew it. he loves his new 50 gallon acrylic tank. hes my favorite fish ive ever had. ive had oscars, texas ciclid, green terrors and jack dempsey. I tried to get a sucker fish with the devil but he would just beat the thing up all day and all night so i took it out. Im thinking about getting him a companion but I can foresee difficulties.

sachin reddy - 2005-12-01
hi, i am sachin reddy from bangalore(india). currently i have 2 tiger oscars, 3 albino oscars and 2 plecos in an 85 USgallons tank. one of the albino oscars has only one eye but he is the most active one. they are all around 10 to 14 inches in length. i love them a lot. they are very energetic and intelligent. i have never fed them live feeding fishes as the feeding fishes might have some diseases. they recognise me very well. they swim at a faster rate when they see me. i hope they grow even larger and reproduce. my opinion on oscars is that they are amazing fishes and friends, so go and get one oscar right now into your aquarium.

Parrots are great! I've had one for nine months. he was the size of a dime when i got him, for real. the manager of the petshop told me he came in a batch of fish and was not something they regularly carry. Nine months after he is already four inches, I am amazed at how fast these fish grow. I just went back to the shop today and picked up two more.

i had an albino oscar i named Agony. i purchased him many years ago when oscars werent so well known and wow what a pet he was. he grew from 1 1/2 inches to 13 inches quickly. i was able to pet him and he would play with a small plastic cat ball, i would throw it in the tank and he would throw it out. he broke every heater i bought for him. his tank mate was a pleco who learned to hold his own. he also learned to ring a bell for food, and was spoiled rotten. i had him for 5 wonderful years.

I have four parrots. When i got them they were yellow, red, blue, and green becuase they were painted. They like to fight a lot. Also they love to hide in the rock a lot. I have had them a year already. They are very territorial but they don't fight with my goldfish, i guess because my goldfish are a lot bigger. they just did something today. I got new little goldfish and i don't know which one did it but they ate one of the golfish's eyes. I got angry at them because they never did anything like that before and i have always had smaller goldfish in the tank. They weren't hungry as i feed them very well so i put them in a new tank alone. The water was not filter and cold so they are being punished. I am joking i moved them to stop them from hurting the other fish. They are very strong so they will be okay in the new tank.

WHEN I FIRST GOT MY NICARAGUANS, I PURCHASED SEVERAL. AS THEY STARTED GROWING, TWO OF THESE FISH PAIRED OFF AND STARTED PICKING ON THE REST OF THE GROUP. I GOT RID OF THE REST OF THEM AND KEPT THE TWO THAT PAIRED UP. IT HAS BEEN YEARS NOW AND THE MALE IS ABOUT SEVEN INCHES LONG AND ABOUT FOUR INCHES DEEP, WITH A LARGE HEAD. THE FEMALE IS MUCH SMALLER, BUT STILL OF GOOD SIZE. HER HEAD IS MUCH SMALLER THAN THE MALE. THEY ARE IN A 90 GAL. WITH GOOD FILTRATION. SUNSHINE PEACOCKS ARE WITH THEM, OF WHICH I AM ABOUT TO TAKE OUT AS THERE ARE TOO MANY EGG EATERS IN THE TANK AND THESE FISH ARE READY TO HAVE LITTLE ONES.
