I started my tank in mid december, and filled it with a number of fishes. Two texas cichlids were put in with the lot (about the same size at the time, an inch and a half). One has grown DOUBLE the size as the other, at first the larger chased the smaller, but now they just dig pits in a corner and hover there. The red devil (which is about the size of the larger texas) chases them around whenever they get too close to 'his' territory. They don't seem as aggressive as the other fish in the tank (oscars, red devil, electric yellows, etc.) but they DID pull up all my live plants in the front of the tank (the ones in the rear are fine). this is the second time I've had an aggressive tank, and the texas cichlids are a great addition.

I've got a red devil myself. He's currently by himself, because he's killed (or nearly killed) all his tank mates! When he was first bought, he was about 3 to 5 inches and had a little black spot on his upper lip (like a little mustach). This is why we named him Hitler! Well, he's now full 15 inches and no longer has his mustach, but because he ate the legs (and claws!) off a crawfish (who once lived with him), the name Hitler still seems appropiate!

I HAVE A RED DEVIL, VERY AGRESIVE! HE ATTACKS THE SIDE OF THE TANK WHEN EVER YOU WALK BY IT, BUT HE IS COOL WHEN CLEANING TANK. HE HAS KILLED ALL HIS FREINDS AND IS CURRENTLY BY HIMSELF. COST ME A LOT OF MONEY IN FREINDS BUY IS STILL MY BABY.

Hello My Name is Dan.

I own 2 oscars in a 20 gallon hexagon tank and man do i love them. i bought them at walmart one afternoon and i have been in love with them since. i am 17 so when i am doing my homework they just look at me and try and help me out. When it comes to feeding they are the very quick. Their names are bert (male) and earie (female). Bert is the white one and earie is the red one. they get along great! I havent bred them yet but on somedays it looks like they want to! lol~ Anyways if anyone is bored with looking at a goldfish get these fish. Go recycle 2 months of cans and bottles like i did and get these fish. They are great fish and this site helped me out with the preparation, so thanks for that!

I have had four yellows for a few months and they have proven to be my most peaceful cichlids. I have housed them with hornet zebras, electric blues, peacocks etc and the only time i have seen nastiness in them is when there is a change in their environment such as a new addition, acidic water, or too cold etc. They have also proven to be the most hardy of all my cichlids, for i wasnt thinking the other day when i cleaned out their tank and poisoned their water. Only six fish remained and adjusted to the poisonous water, four of which were all my yellows, followed by one of my hornet zebras and my red top zebra. They are perfectly fine now and I am very pleased they survived. They're so sweet!!

I HAD 4 OSCARS AND 2 DIED, THEN I HAD 2 TIGAR OSCARS LEFT. I WAS VERY SADDENED WHEN ONE OF MY TIGAR OSCARS STARTED TO TAKE SEIZURES IN MY TANK. THEY WERE CALLED FLOPSY AND MOPSY (FLOPSY PREVIOUSLY HAD A BROKEN JAW). IT DIED AFTER 7 YEARS OF PLAYING WITH PING PONG BALLS AND OTHER FLOATING TOYS (MAKE SURE THEY ARE STERILISED FIRST) AND FOLLOWING ME ROUND THE ROOM AND WATCHING THE TV. THEY WERE KEPT IN A LARGE TANK IN SITTING ROOM WITH A FOOT LONG PLEC CALLED TIDDLES AND THEY DIDNT EVEN BOTHER HIM. THEN THE OTHER ONE DIED. MY AUNT WHO BRED THESE SAID IT WAS DUE TO LOSING ITS COMPANION. SINCE IT WAS A BABY I HAD THEM. THIS WAS JUST A LITTLE NOTE SO I COULD REMEBER MY FLOPSY AND MOPSY AS NO ONE ELSE LIKED THEM. THEY SAID THEY WERE UGLY INCLUDING MY EX HUSBAND. THEY DIED WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER AND I LOVED THEM AND THEY ALSO CAME TO THE SURFACE FOR TICKLES AND STROKES.

Hey im mike. i have 1 tiger oscar for about 4 months now. it has grown very fast from 2.5" to 6" in that time. i feed it mostly pellets and occassionally feeder guppies. it eats the pellets and the guppies like eating is going out of style. i breed my own now because of disease and the only place that sells them in my area is 20 miles away, why waste gas. in that time i owned a plecostumus about to less than 2" long. as my oscar grew it became a problem as he eventually started nipping at the plecos fin. it was ok the first time cause only a little bit was taken off. then the next day i found the pleco in oscars mouth around 11pm that day! the pleco was still alive somehow but eventually passed the next day. so to anyone who wants to have a plecostumus, make sure it is bigger or as big as your oscar. Oscars are great fish overall and a great conversation piece. my friend always mentions everytime he is over that that fish is getting bigger every time

I have two jellybean parrot fish and they are great fish to keep. I have found that the key to keeping my fish happy is to give them places where they can hide and feel safe. They were very shy when they were alone in my 30 gallon tank, then I got just a few fish to keep them company and everything is great. I have three taricota pots that I broke just a bit to make them look nice and give the fish gravel to push around and they seem to like there home.
