When I first saw this fish it was in a tank with gold gouramis, so I thought he would be a good addition to my gourami tank. Boy, was I wrong, this "plant eater" killed three of my gouramis within the first two days of being in the tank. One of the gouramis it killed was three times its size. Not a good community fish.

These fish seem more susceptible to ich than others. I just got one from the pet store and have been treating it for about 5 days now. It started with just one spot and exploded in a matyer of hours to about 8. They are the only fish I have had catch ich so far...I have owned a few goldfish, mollies, a chinese alge eater, and a guarami (not sure on spelling). However, they seem to be a relatively long lasting fish. They are just fragile in their youth.

i bought a leporinus a few months ago. he quickly grew large and is very aggressive. I only have one gold gourami in that tank with him. he has nipped off all the gouramis fins. i tried to put a candy striped pleco in the tank and he instantly attacked it. i dont think its common for them to be this aggressive.

I am a very big fish person. But, my favorite fish is a hatchetfish. I have learned more about the silver hatchet fish then any other hatchetfish. But when you have any type of hatchetfish, you should always have a net over your filter hole, so your hatchetfish will not jump out. For proof, I have had two hatchetfish jump out of my tank. One was a silver hatchetfish. It was playing in the filter current for a few days. But one morning before I left the house, I did not see my hatchetfih in my tank. A while later, we found it by the stand our fish tank is on. It was to late to save it. You can also ask a person at a fish store. But hatchetfish are very good fish to keep.

It might be dangerous to keep a hatchet fish but its not. Have you seen a hatchet fish? It's small so you can keep it. In rivers maybe there are some hatchet fish that are lost. Fisher men sometimes let pepole adopt hacthet fish would you like to adopt one? Like also to if you don't know ask a vet or a person in the fish store enjoy having a hatchet fish pet!

A hardy, pretty, and underrated fish. Looks great against a blue background. Sometimes they school and sometimes they explore on their own, at all levels of the tank. Bloodfins are supposed to be about the easiest tetra to keep. Mine adapted to my aquarium in no time. Their fins are a quite nice red.

I have had my leporinus for about 2 or 3 months and it is doing great. Despite what this website says this fish is not only an herbivore. Mine, which is about 4 to 5 in. in length, eats juvie swords and guppies which I have all bred myself. It does eat algea wafers and lettuce also.

I have three of these in a 30g tank along with a dozen other various tetras, 2 emerald catfish (Brochis splendens - my favorite) and a lone male betta. One of the three chased the betta and nipped his
fins mercilessly for the first week but has since calmed down.

I own a Leporinus fasciatus and he is not aggressive in the least other than if he gets cornered and then he usually just dips his head and shakes his body.
