I have a silver dollar fish that is 16 years old! he has jumped out of the tank a few times. in fact, 1 time he jumped out and i didn't notice it. I had fallen asleep and was awoken by this slapping sound. it was the sound of the silver dollar fish on the bare floor behind the tank. I picked him up and he has a dust/cat-hair sweater on his body. so, i picked the hair off and plopped him back in the tank. that was about 6 years ago. I am thinking he might be dying now though, he is laying flat on the bottom of the tank, although, he seems more lively today. I did a water change, and i think the tank might have been too warm (83 degrees)

I just recently purchased 5 silver dollars for my aquarium. These fish seemed a little skiddish at first but have settled in nicely with my 4 angelfish, 4 mollies, 4 gouramies and 2 catfish. They are still a little jumpy when someone gets too close to the tank, but they are easy to care for and their constant activity makes for a nice addition to my tank. I can sit forever and watch them. Even though all 5 of mine appear to be males there is no aggession among them.

Hello,

My grade 10 class has been working on an aquarium project. We have 6 marble hatchets and 3 corydoras catfish. 4 glowlight tetras were added as a mid swimmer in our 20 gallon tank. The glowlights were added on Thursday, seemed to be doing swimmingly on Friday, but all four were mysteriously deceased by Monday. Tank levels were ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 5ppm, and phosphates 0.5ppm. The only thing we could figure is that they were sucked into the filter. However, they were rather large glowlights so it shouldn't have been a problem. But as a warning, be careful!!!!

The serpae tetras are very beautiful fish. I own three of them right now. I will probably add more soon. They get along great with other tetras. My serpae tetras have a very high metabolism. They are constantly swimming around.

We've had a school of three of these in our community tank for three years. I was surprised to find a fairly large fry in the tank this morning! This is the first time I've had an egg layer spawn, and I wasn't even meaning too.

I have only just started my aquarium, but I still believe these fish are one of the best aquarium fish yet. They are quite active and at my house have even grown to like being pushed up and down by the filter current. :) I recommend these fish to anyone with an aquarium.

The first Leporinus I brought home is snow white w/blk. bars. I took a second one home the following night and the two swam side by side with mouths open before going at it with scales flying. I brought a third home the next night, and neither showed this behavior towards it. I suspect the first two are males. They still spar, but no out and out fighting. These two seem to have a bit more black edging on dorsal and rear of anal fins. They also have a bit more color on their pelvic fins. They pay attention only to each other, not their tankmates, which are gouramis, headstanders, bleeding hearts, kissers. They are in a 125. They need their own kind to interact with, and lots of room. They love meaty foods, but also love halved cucumber and zucchini held with an elastic on a rock, and spinach and romaine lettuce on a veggie clip, and algae wafers.
