I have had 4 marbled hatchetfish for 3 months now and they turned out to be perfect fish. For the first 7 to 10 days they had trouble getting food because because of the other fish getting to it first. After that they managed to get some food and I was reassured they would survive. My favorite thing about them is how they school together. There shape also helps them stand out a lot. They are great fish for a community tank.

I love these fish! I've had a school of these fish over five years & never lost a one. Even after a November icestorm where the the little guys were left in 40 degree water for five days they all survived & kept on kickin' even when everything else except my sisters white clouds died. A great fish indeed.

The Leps are nice, but boy can they consume snails. I had one that ate every snail I put in the tank. I was told they were more towards vegetarian, so I didn't realize it was this fish doing the eating. Kept buying more snails, only having them disappear, with empty floating shells, or actual holes in their shells. As soon as I got rid of the fish, my snails flourished.

i raised 13 of these fish in a 115 gal aquarium. This was 10 years ago and they lived for 6 years when i had them. They are a great fish in a sole species tank. They did so well im gonna try it again, but in a 35/40 gal tank with 6 instead of 13. i can't wait to see the results. dave

I have a school of 21 Long-Finned Serpae Tetras in a 90 gal tank along with 6 pretty big Discus, 16 Gold Tetras, 3 Cardinal Tetras, 7 Cory Cats, 3 Ottos and a trio of red swordtails. My tank is heavily planted. I use CO2 injection to maintain the pH around 6.7 to 6.9. Temp is kept around 80-82 F. H2O changes @ about 50% every 2 or 3 weeks. I've had the Serpaes now for over 6 months, and I have never seen such LONG & COLORFUL fins like this ever!! They have never hurt any of the smaller Tetras nor are they scared of the 4 1/2" + Discus. Occasionally, they will nip other Serpae's fins slightly, but they grow them back very quickly. I feed a very diverse variety of foods. Here it goes: Live:bloodworms, Frozen & Freeze-dried: (bloodworms, tubifex, cyclops, mysis, brineshrimp, beefheart), Flakes: Spirulina & Cyclopeeze & a homemade gelatin goldfish food.

I raised one from a baby. When we moved I had to give him away and he jumped out of the bowl before I had a chance to cover it. I heard a cat crying and as we do not have a cat I could not figure out where it was coming from... and it was this fish. I just bought 2 babies and one died. I am feeding it tropical fish food as I did the other, I hope he does ok.

I have four high-fin serpaes in a ten-gallon tank with my upside-down catfish, which seem to do fine with the serpaes (it's hard to tell because the cats are nocturnal and hardly ever show themselves), and one lonely long-fin blue danio who generally ignores and is ignored by them. The only nipping problem I've had is that the serpaes occasionally nip each other, which I'm hoping to reduce by increasing their numbers so they can school properly (I just got the fourth today, and they already seem much less nip-happy). They've never presented any problems to me and are very pretty, especially against blue aquarium plants. They have also withstood my failure to clean the tank as often as I should quite gracefully.

I have 7 of these wonderful fish in a heavily planted tank with 6 rainbow fish, 3 coris, 2 upside down catfish, 6 penguin tetras, some red eyed tetras, and 2 horse head loaches. these bred and now i have 50 of them fully grown.
I keep my rummy noses in an 80 gallon tank.
I feed them flakes and blood worms as treats.
I would recommend these fish because they are colorful and peaceful.
Dylan

I have three serpae tetra that live with a gold gourami that is three or four times their size. They sure do hang in there and hold there own against a much larger fish!
