some fish lover!! - 2009-11-01
I have a red piranha and he is amazing. I have him by himself in a 5 gallon tank and he is as fast as lightning. If it is by itself or with three or more other piranhas that are added to the tank at the same I would recommend this fish to anybody who has a empty tank looking to fill it with a freshwater fish.

A 5 gallon tank is waaaaaay too small. Once he is full grown he won't able to turn around...actually way before he grows up.

Piranha's are an exiting addition to your home! However, they require a minimum of 20 gallons per adult fish, depending on the species. A ideal aquarium size for your Piranha, is a 20 gallon or larger aquarium!

I bought three (all they had) of these tetras a few days ago to go into my planted 32 gal. fully [fishless] cycled tank. Luckily they happened to be almost fully grown which is apparently when they show there true beauty.I can't describe how thrilled and elated I am to have gotten them. They settled in right away as if to say 'ok so what's there to eat around here'? They are hillarious to watch, with their funny and interesting antics. One minute swimming together as best buds, then sneaking up on each other for a suprise joust. So entertaining and so much facsinating personality. Never really agressive, just goofy and leaves other fish alone, even my tiny neons. They'll eat anything. And their beauty is astounding! They look like they were dipped in some craft sparkles, LOL. I'm going to get more to make a bigger school!! I HIGHLY recommend these fish.

I am sorry that the one died. You must be doing a good job though or the others might have gotten ill also. Good luck with them.

if you didn't find any parts of any of the three fish they probibly jumped out. Silver dollars are related to the parana but they are vegetarians! paco, oscars and catfish are good tank mates. silver dollars get more agressive in schools

How big is your shark? It probably ate your fish.

What is the yellow stuff at the bottom the the tank in the gravel. Can they live in distilled water. Does fish places sell both male and female. how fast do you need to change the water when it turns gray.

It is good to start with purified water or even boiled water that has cooled down. There are easier methods though, you can grab a bottle of anti-chlorine at the pet store which will prepare the water quite nicely. Unfortunately that is only the start! Lol it takes sometime to get the water ready for you fish though due to the biological processes of the bacteria that need to take place in the water, for your tank to support a healthy and well balanced environment for your fish. The gray in your tank is a good thing that means the bacteria are changing the ammonia which is harmful to the fish, please note you do get the bacteria ready in a bottle for your tank just follow the instructions. Be careful read up and do a lot of research about fish and the conditions they need to survive before you purchase any fish. Find out about fin nippers because they can cause problems with larger fined fish. One last thing find out about how many fish to get at a time because the conditions in your tank need to adjust for the amount of life and find out how to properly condition you fish for less stress when adding them to your tank, because less stress equals healthier fish.

I have 7 neon tetra & an apple snail in a tank. They were all trasferred to their new tank due to My betta splenden nibbling the feelers off the snail and the neon tetra really hacking into my betta splendens beautiful fins. My snail had grown back half of his feelers before putting in with the neon tetra and over night his feelers are gone and so are his eyes. I was told neon tetra were placid & lowest of the food chain & would go well with the apple snail. What comments do you have . It may not have been my betta splenden that ate the feelers initilally. They are being fed plenty but only eat from what falls in the water. Not what is on top as I was told they would feed.
