I have had my pleco for over 7 years. I enjoy watching him fly thru the tank and raise his huge dorsal fin. He is about 8" in length in my 29g aquarium. I would love to upgrade to a bigger aquarium for him but I am limited for space. People are always amazed at how big he is, they are kind of spooked but always ask questions. He loves to eat Romaine lettuce that I sink on a rock tied with a rubberband.
My plecostomas is very agressive. He shares a 10 gallon tank with some mollies. The tank is overcrowded, so that may explain his aggressive behavior.
I am currently have a baby pleco in a 5 gallon tank. I plan to have a bigger tank when it grows up..However I am having trouble specing it I have noticed that it has a shield infront of its eye and 2 fins on the side it is tan with black spots. its very cool. I hope to find out what species it is soon.
I have two Plecos and are around about 4 inchs living with B,nose and a Black ghostknife, and arguments do occur occasionly. Love Zichini or cucumber. Love my Plecos...
HELLO MY DAUGTHER HAS HAD HER PLECOTOMUS SINCE MAY.HE IS VERY WELL TEMPERED AND HAS GROWN ABOUT THREE INCHES SINCE THEN,HE LIVES IN A TANK WITH GUPPIES, NEONS, AND GOLD FISH AND THEY ALL GET ALONG VERY WELL.HE HAS OUT LIVED ALMOST ALL THE REST SHE RECIEVED AND SEEMS TO COPE WITH CHANGES VERY WELL
I have had my pleco for about 4 years now. He (or she) is 12" long & lets me hand feed him flake food. When it is feeding time, he swims to the top of the water & I just drop the flakes in his mouth!!
I have one pleco that is about 4-5 inches in my 55 gallon tank. He is new to the tank. My tank consists of 2 baby red zebra cichlids, 2 other unknown cichlids and a goldfish. My other adult cichlids are quarantined because of an illness. I am soon getting a larger pleco about 6-7 inches long. A Pleco is an extremely hardy fish. They are great algae eaters. I never had an aggressive pleco in my tank(probably because I have cichlids). Great fish.
I have an Albino Hypostomus Plecostomus.I am looking for some info on how to tell a male from a female,.this site has helped me out on some questions, but not all. My Pleco is about 4inches long. His tank mates are a few guppies, they get along fine.
The plecostomus is an excellent cleaner for the aquarium, however, they can be very territorial. I have a 70 gal. tank with 3 discus and one 8 inch plecos. I feed him plenty, but he is so aggressive (always chasing and harrassing my discus) that I am forced to find a new home for him. Do not put your plecos with such mild mannered fish as discus.
I have had my pleco for about 3-4 months and he is great. he eats all the alge and left over food. I have him in with my 2 Blue gouramis, 2 Dwarf gouramis, 1 Gold gourami, and 1 Blue danio and he does fine. The only real problem I have with him is that he re-arranges the tank the way he wants, no matter how many times I fix it. Besides the fact they are awsome fish to keep.
