I`ve had two of these fish for twenty years, they go for long periods without eating, then they will eat for a period of days, then stop again. They will eat any small fish they can swallow at night when the fish settle down to sleep.

The common pleco displays sexual differences in males by small barbels that grow around the mouth when they are mature, females have larger stomachs. As many of you have found, they can grow quite large, leading to good resale value. I have a clown knifefish, an arowana, two young plecs and a rainbow shark. All are carnivorous, but leave the 3" plecos alone.

My husband and I bought a redtail catfish about 3 months ago, his name is Thor, he is the best fish I have ever bought, he does not require much maintenance and he is very aggressive, he has ate many of his tank mates including angelfish, he had growm quite a bit since we have had him, we have him in a 55 gallon aquarium right now and are planning on buying a 220 gallon. They are a very easy fish to have and take care of as long as you dedicate a little time everyday to them. I would recommend a redtail catfish to anyone who asked me about them. It takes very little time for them to become a part of your family. We can interact with him, we can pet his head they are very smart catfish, and hopefully soon he will let us feed him out of our hands, they are great fish just to sit down and watch, we feed our redtail catfish live fish (feeders).

red tailed catfish are beautiful creatures that really do stand out but i do recommend that you only get one if you are that desperate and you have a tank of at least 150 gallons of water and acrylic aquariums would be better with a width of at least 30" 75cm. a good make is akva stabil aquariums. these fish can possibly get to 18" in 1 year

A very hardy fish. I have had one for several years, he has been through a few tank changes, and has withstood high and low ph changes. Looks really cool, is easy to take care of and doesnt get too big like some catfish. He has even had some disease on his skin (my fault) and hes come back strong. He is very shy though, only really swimming around the tank at night when nobody is in the room.

If you dont have a Pleco in your tank, you dont know what you are missing. I love them. They are great to watch and you can get so many different kinds, sizes and colours, I have 4 of them. 2 Bristlenosed, 1 Veiltail, 1 Royal and soon to get a Zebra Pleco. They are a great edition to any tank and they dont eat your plants or bully other fish, even the larger Plecos. A must have fish.
