We bought our Pangasius from PetSmart too. The information there says it grows to 8". It is now 16" and still growing! The description on this site is very accurate. I will say, Pangasius can be very sweet when they get used to you. Ours is in a 50 gallon tank with five Cichlids and a Plecostamus. We need to go to a bigger tank now because the Pangasius is banging around and needs more room. Oh, it makes a mess when it has to go. Its really increased our need for tank cleanings!

my husband and i have a red tailed catfish named red. this is our third one. he is about 10 inches. red is a wonderful fish except for the fact that he has ate 4 arowanas,1 leaf fish, and 6 tinfoil bards that were about hand size. out of all three we have had, this one means the most to us. This is because we saved him from our amazon catfish which had him in his mouth up to his pectoral fins by the time i saw him. my husband got the catfish to spit him out and he is still thriving today. we keep him in a 180 gallon tank. we plan to build a pond in our back yard for him pretty soon.

I have 4 of these unusal guys & they are a constant source of amusement from trying to find them in the sand to watching them after lights out. I got them whilst looking for tankmates for my Green Spotted Puffer. I wanted a fish that would clean up the puffers leftovers but would not cause a problem as puffers are notoriously agressive, the answer was certainly Banjo catfish!

I have had my pleco for about 4 years now. He (or she) is 12" long & lets me hand feed him flake food. When it is feeding time, he swims to the top of the water & I just drop the flakes in his mouth!!

I have a 30 gallon tank, with 11 shark/catfish. 6 of the black tips
and 5 of the iridecent 3 of the 11 are almost 7 inches long.
I can not get over how fast they are growing.
I also have in my tank, 4 Angel fish, 2 Kissing Grouramis, some pink & blue tetras, some mollies, 2 loaches, 2 bottom feeders, and 4 bottom feeder catfish.
At Xmas I am going to be getting a 55 gallon tank to put them in.
I found all the stuff on this webpage very useful.
Any ideas as what I can put in the 55 gallon tank to make them more comfortable?

When I first got the 10 " shark he would not eat. It took 2 months for him to relax enough to eat with the light on when I drop in sinking discs. However it still has a damaged nose from when it banged into the glass when I first brought it home. It healed some but there are still 2 spots that are raw and dont heal.

i play banjo, but never even knew there was such a thing as a banjo catfish until recently. while at the pet store i purchased a $1.oo lump of java fern(live plant), which the pet guy wadded up into a little ball and threw into a paper sack. then, i went to dinner, ate, had a dandy ole time, and drove home...total elapsed time, about an hour and a half. once home, i threw this clump of plant stuff into my tank, where it slowly began to spread out. later in the evening, much to my suprise, i saw this crazy looking fish in my tank which i had NO EARTHLY CLUE how it got there, or what it was...then my hot fish-nerd girlfriend identified it as a baby BANJO CATFISH. so there, beat that.

hi. i have a large 12 inch pangasius and 3 small 3 inch ones. i find these fish very communal fish and get along with fish such as discus, sharks, elephant fish, plecs, and all sorts although his favourite companion is the small 3 inch shark cat which i recently bought. this fish also enjoys an actinic blue bulb during the night. this still gives a visual on the tank and it also brings his striping blue markings up. he is currently in a 7ft tank and loves it.

I have two Red-Tailed catfish that just a year ago were as tiny as the typical goldfish would be. They were very cute and I was so enchanted by their exotic beauty I had to have them. I bought three and they were all very small. One -the smallest- quickly became lunch, to my dismay. I learned FAST that these are not your typical pet. Everything from my neon tetras to the plecostamus was disappearing, and the red-tails were growing. One was very aggressive and became much larger than the other. It soon turned its attention for lunch on my other remaining red-tail and I had to get a second 75 gallon tank to keep them apart. By that time they were a over a foot long with heads as large as a size 13 shoe. They eat out of my hands anything I feed them;frozen krill, and frozen or live feeder fish from the local petstore. I have never had a fish or pet that I enjoy caring for more than these catfish. The biggest of them is named Jaws and Whiskers is now growing rapidly since being placed in the new tank. I plan to get larger tanks in the future that resemble the South American habitat they thrive in. That will leave two empty tanks for a possible return of "normal" aquarium keeping...
