My pleco, whose name is Pete after Pete on the television show "MacGyver" (that's how we keep track of her age) is about 15 years old and app. 11 inches long. We bought her for my oldest son. We always thought it was a male, but after reading some of the other comments, it would appear that it is a female. It has no "whiskers". Pete gets a daily diet of an algae wafer to make sure she gets enough to eat and doesn't have to depend on just the algae forming in the tank. About 5 years ago, I had to upgrade from a 20 gal. long aquarium to a 40 gal. breeder to accommodate her length. She's a real member of the family. Her only tankmate is a large pink parrot fish named Archamedes, who bugs her daily until she chases after him.

you can`t beat these little fella`s, having said that I have 2 very large sail fin plec`s at just over 1 foot in my heated KOI pond. they help to keep the alge down so they help the UV do it`s job. I also have 7 baby bristle nose and another sailfin in my 4 foot tank.

I am sad to say that my pet "Sharky" died yesterday 8/9/05. I had him for.... are you ready?.....22 years! He was about 1 inch long when I bought him and was almost 12 inches when he passed on. I kept him in a 20 gallon long aqaurium with his only other roomie a 15 year old Rafael catfish. He probably would have grown bigger in a bigger tank but he was big enough for me. After a proper, respectful grieving period, I am going to restock the tank with lots of small peaceful fish like neons, guppies and angels. Farewell Sharky, I will miss you! :(

One of the most easily frightened fish I have ever come to know. Nevertheless, when it comes out of hiding to feed or swim it's always a pleasureable sight!

Active fish does well in most tanks, but catches diseases pretty easy. good eater, likes everything. many fishes only bite it once and only once, but the good thing is that they don't bite back.

My sharks were killed by my fish very easily. note: keep with non-violent fishes like tetras because the sharks dont fight back when bit.

Eats left overs on the bottom. great fish to have, but too small for most fish like oscars or cichlids. still a great fish to have.

This is probably the best fish I will ever have. It is healthy, nice looking, and it keeps my tank clean. I had a house for it that I took out, because if for some reason if there was a freak accident and he died, I wouldnt be able to see him. I've had him for about 2 years now, and he is about 5 inches long. Greatest fish, and his name is Raoul...lol

I bought a raphael catfish for 3.49 and it is probably the best catfish I think I will ever have. It outeats any other pleco I've ever had when it comes to the algae, but then at times it just doesn't eat for a few days, then I'll see him skirming around. Great fish, had him for two years, bought him at 3/4'' and now hes about 5 inches. great fishie!
