Hi! I'm really new to being an aquarist, and I decided to bring two giant Danios home with a (cleaned) 10-gallon setup I bought from a thrift shop for cheap. I do have a question about feeding in general...how much is a 'little amount'? To err on the safe side, as I've heard of fish dying from overfeeding so I give them three small meals of around...four large flakes equivalent. Maybe somewhat less than a pinch. Am I giving them enough food, or am I giving them too much? This is my first time and I really want it to be right. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you are doing just fine feeding your fish! I wouldn't worry about overfeeding them too much, as long as you do regular water changes. One pinch 2-3 times a day is a good amount.

To start off, be sure you feed a variety of food including fresh chopped veggies. Also a 10 gallon is way to small for these fish. Even one or two. With only having 2 you will quickly notice a dominant fish in the hierarchy whom will most likely kill the other one. You need a group of at least 5 or 6 at minimum. 90 gallon cichlid community tank 75 gallon giant danio species tank

We bought one to help clean the tank. The pet store guy said he would hide most of the time but this couldn't be farther from the truth, he is all over the place! I hope this is a sign that he loves his new home! He is leving with 5 Zebra Danio's, 1 Rainbow SHark, 2 Bala Sharks, 1 Cory Cat, and 1 Pleco. Love this guy he is so cool!

I just bought a single mono and have kept it with 2 gold fish, 2 sharks, 1 ghost & few guppies! Although read that they are not fresh water fish. But they were kept in fresh water from where I bought them. Is it really a bad idea?

Mono Fish usually do fine as youngsters in freshwater aquariums. But as they get older they usually do better in a brackish water environment.

It takes them awhile to acclimate to new surroundings - your new tank and decorations etc. Give them a few days and you will see them start to adjust and then they will start to come out and be around.

My mum bought 8. They were shy but when people not nearby the aquarium they came out from shying away. I tried to put other fishes such as red tail barb but they were attacking it so I guess they were not good around other fishes.

I don't feed my fish that much and it is bigger than yours. I only feed maybe twice a day she is in a 35 gallon tank and has been in there for three months without me changing the water. I keep the water 2 inches from the top so the filter can slash for bubbles, and I have a heater that evaporates the water over two weeks and I add water over two weeks because it becomes too low for the filter. I bought this fish {Peachie} thinking she can go in with the 4 Oscars {Nomination}, {Grouch}, {Myers}, {Stars}, And Jack Dempsey{Jackso dempsey}. Well the Red blood kept on fighting with the Oscars so that I had to buy another tank for Peachie.

I have a gold clown knife and he is in a 45 gallon. Can he live in there forever with other 3 cichlids?

If he gets along fine with the cichlids, there is no reason they can't stay together. My main concern would be that the tank is too small. These knifefish can get quite large and a 45 gallon tank will not be big enough in the long term.

My two featherfins and pictus in my 55 gallon have gotten along great with each other, as well as 7 corys, 1 dwarf gourami, 1 female firemouth, 2 Chinese algae eaters, 4 giant danios, and ramshorn snails. I did however get rid of my two Chinese algae eaters, as they were just too territorial/fast/jerky. Not to mention they don't eat algae much as adults. I also have my gf my gourami, for some reason my firemouth would chase him and swim around him like a mate. I use to have a kenyi African cichlid when most of my fish were in a 29 gallon. I know it says featherfins are great with them but after seeing him all of a sudden become aggressive at age 2 and bite my catfishes barbs, he had to go. All around, my aquarium has done great. I've made huge improvements in my care, like converting from fake to all live plants, water changes every couple days, changing from gravel to pool filter sand, having a consistent heater, day and night cycle, and mixed diet. I look back on my 29 gallon days, and even though my fish made it through, I still feel absolutely awful about having kept the light on 24/7 for so long. Me and my fish are a billion times happier and healthier now. As soon as can I will upgrade to a 90 gallon tank to provide even more room and cover for the fish to grow.
