They are somewhat aggresive when they get more than 4 inches. You can keep them in the community tank, but when they grow larger move them with similar size fish, because they MIGHT start messing with small fish like neons and some liveberears.

You can breed these fish and then raise the fry keep some for yourself and sell some to small pet shops for in store credit. Very cool fish, you can mix colors and make different patterns with the generations of your original mix.

Dont get a male and a female in one tank, they will breed like crazy! And when you breed them careful with colors because if you mess up, the fish will be dull looking with no color, and some petshops will not buy them from you , or they will use them as feeders for larger fish. AND when you want to breed them for yourself keep the good ones and release the bad ones in the community tank so the other fish will snack on them, sounds mean, but thats better than throwing them away. You can also seperate the male and females of the fry when they get around 2-4 weeks old because then THEY will start to breed again. I suggest using a net divider in the small fry tank.

Ive got a pleco and unfortunetly I wasnt prepared for it. I have a 10 gallon and I got it when it was a cute 1/2 inch baby. Boy, now its a 2 foot monster in my pond out back. If its out in the shallow end and I have guests over, they are startled by its size.

I have to agree. My red flame gourami is extremely aggressive. In the same tank I have plecos a few platy and an opaline gourami. I had read that this is a good community fish but not at all.

I currently own 2 of these fish, one being the pinkish/orange color, whose name is Bubbles. The other is actually a dark color with stripes along its side called Smiles. Bubbles is almost 3 inches long and Smiles is a little over 2 inches long. They actually seem to enjoy each others company and are always seen swimming with each other. Its almost like they keep playing tag with each other, or stop and stare at each other. I just love them and are a ton of fun to watch.

The Blue or also three-spot gourami is a brilliant fish.
I currently kept a small male in a ten gallon with
two corydoras catfish, one butterfly pleco and one
common pleco who will be moved to a fifty five gallon
pretty soon. My gourami gets along pretty well with
the other fish but sometimes he does get a little nippy,
reminding the corydoras that he is the ruler. :) ha! ha!
A very beautiful, hardy, interesting fish that fish
keepers should try out after they have got the hang of
the hobby.
