My Ryukin is about 1/2 now. And just rating today he can't keep swimming or up in the tank. He tries to stay level but he sinks to the bottom and lays upside down. Can someone help me with what's wrong with him? ): Please and thank you!

Swim bladder is a common problem with the ryukin goldfish. Jungle used to make a pond fungus eliminator that was great for this issue. Unfortunately, Jungle products discontinued this product (which came with alot of upset from breeders and hobbyists). frozen peas that have been thawed and fed to the goldfish seems to help some.

My wife and I had agreed too give our black banded lepor aka ( striper )a new home after my brother gave him up for adoption. He was around a inch and half long and very hungry. He ate pretty much everything we had in the tank with him. We fed him twice a day and he is now around 8 inches long . He is quite an architect .. Always changing the landscaping of the tank. He lives with 5 fancy tail goldfish, 2 silver catfish, several bottom feeders. He is such a character and never a dull moment. We enjoy watching him

I have just bought a black moor goldfish and it is just at the bottom corner of the tank and keeps floating on his side. Is this normal? It is the first time I have had goldfish and I left the tank empty for a week before putting the fish in. Thanks kate.

did you cycle the tank before you put the goldfish in? You should, or the goldfish might develop 'new tank syndrom'. You can, ofcourse cycle the tank WITH fish in it, but its not reccomended to do so with GOLDFISH. Also, even if you can do this with goldfish, sick goldfish/stressed goldfish might be too stressed from that. You also might of just bought a sick fish! Can you return it? It also might just be stressed, and they stay at the bottom of the tank when they are stressed- like mine, but mine swims around too, but not floating or anything, he seems healthy.Im not sure about yours, is it eating? Does it ALWAYS stay down there or sometimes? Do you have airiation, and a filter, these are neccisary.

Is your goldfish still acting like this? Is he eating? Does he look like he's getting spots or losing scales anywhere? It could be any number of things depending on his symptoms. Have you checked the temperature of the tank or the water quality? Goldfish usually do okay in most water conditions but these are things you can check if he still seems to be having trouble.

I’m far from being knowledgeable in the computer world but still learning. I’m uncertain on how to ask questions on this site. Can someone direct me to the proper way to navigate through? I have several fish and two large tanks and three small tanks and my favorite fish of all that I have are the shubunkins. I’ll get into details later when I’m able to submit questions. I enjoy reading the questions and answers especially about the shubunkins

To my fellow frontosa-lovers, can you tell me how many frontosas do you have, what are their sizes, and the size of your tank. Let me know if you have other fishes in your frontosa tank. Thank you.

I love frontosas. They are by far my favorite african. I had a great pair that I lost a few years ago during a huricane that caused us to loose power for weeks. The lack of heat, inconsistent aeration and poor water circulation was eventually too much. It was heart breaking because they were about 5 years old and were finally starting to mature. I just recently began pursuing them again and now have two. I'm looking to add one more to the family. I like to take my time acquiring them and never get more than one from the same source as I prefer that they are not related. I love to pair them with yellow labs. Their colors compliment each other so well. Labs too aren't that aggressive so they get along well. Plus, labs breed easily so they keep the tank interesting. I find a minimal number of tropheus and brichardi keep things interesting and are suitable tank mates as long as the frontosas have a chance to grow up a little first. Current set up... 80 gallon bow front 2 x 2' frontosas (separate sources of course) 6 x 1' yellow labs (bought in pairs from separate sources) 2 x small monos 2 x juvenile tropheus (duboisi & namansi) 1 x brichardi (suflower)

Hello, I believe I have an AURATUS cichlid . It started off looking like the one in the picture but changes often to mostly darkish to where u can hardly see the stripes. It has one yellow egg spot, but iam unsure what the sex is any help?  I also had 2 orange cichlids not sure what kind in the same tank. This morning my kids found one of the orange ones dead in the tank and a new baby (fry)!! I am unsure which fish was the mother and father and what the sex of the two left are? The baby was unexpected and I want to know which fish to be watching for more in future if needed but not even sure what i have left. thanks

My guess, from what you've described, is that your Auratus is very likely a male. Males are the ones that get very dark when in a breeding mode, and they are very territorial. They will pften kill other male Mbunas. Hard to say which species the other is, but I'm guessing it's also a Mbuna. So make sure you have lots of hiding places for it, as the Auratus can be a brute. If the fry survives (lots of hiding places help!), within a couple of months you should be able to tell which fish were the parents. Wishing you great success!

My bubble eye girl, Samone, is preggers I think. She is fatter than the guy who I originally thought was a girl, Angel. How should I care for them? We will be on vacation when the eggs will hatch, most likely.

That's exciting. There needs to be very leafy plants, like Anacharis or Cambomba types, for the eggs to adhere to when they spawn. The challenge will be that shortly after the eggs are laid, the parents will begin to eat them. You could try putting spawning mops and lots of plants, making sure there is lots of dense vegetation, so that some of the eggs may drop out of reach of the parents.

hi, I am Bob. I am keeping betta for many years. There are a little problem with feeding when you first buy them. Try to feed them livefoods, especially live bloodworms, mosquito larvae etc. If it is taking prepaired food, then no problem. My betta, which have reddish blue colouring which did'nt take pellets, but insects and meat pieces. If you want a fancy show from your betta, try to keep a mirror in your tank so that your fish can see it. He will inflate it's gillls, and straighten his fins, looking highly magestic. Betta's are curious and intelligent fishes, try to keep caves in the tank and your betta will sometime hide there, even when there are strong currents, to escape fron the currents.

i never knew they liked mirrors! very cool thanks for adding that
  • ananya roy - 2013-03-11
Actually the male betta mistakes his own shadow to be another male betta and displays his 'fighting mood'. The inflation of his gills, and straightening of his fins are all displays of his 'fighting strategy' to shoo off the second betta he sees (here it is his own reflection). Also he is not at all amused with a mirror, he sees it as his opponent and gets stressed.

Not a bad thing.  There are a lot of things that control growth.  Tank size, temps, feeding, but you are in no way doing anything wrong based on growth.
  • Taylor - 2013-02-28
ok thank you for the info, at the moment i have it in a 125L tank with about 12 small community but will be moving it 2 my 240L tank with my 2 oscars when it is big enough. the temp is 25/26
