So I planted some Water Onion bulbs a couple of days ago and on some of the bulbs there is some white cloudy stuff starting to appear and I wasn't sure exactly what that was? Should I remove the bulbs? Is this dangerous to my fish? Any information would be helpful and thank you in advance!

The white cloudy stuff is probably mold?

I bought some moneywort from petsmart, and a leaf of onion plant made it into the bag (and my tank), do you think this will grow?

Might as well try. Usually they propagate via the offshoot bulbs. I have no idea if a leaf can actually root but no reason not to try. Right?

If you haven't got your answer. NO... The leaf will not produce roots with this plant.

I would personally let them do what they will do naturally.  You can detach them if you want too.

my lace plant is dying and i dont know why. i got it on march 27th, 2012... had like 20 full leaves then. now it has like 2-3 baby leaves. the rest rotted off. i tried plant food, which doesnt seem to effect it. my 3 amazon swords are flourishing nicely though!
iv read multiple sites that contradicted each other on proper amount of lighting. low vs high? which one is it?
and should i plant it away from a water current or does it matter? HELP! haha This plant cost me $15!

Current water stats (which im trying to fix):
55 gal freshwater tank (started mid January 2012)

Temp: 70-78F

pH: 6.0 (was 7.4 two weeks ago. idk what made it jump down. the only new thing i added to the water was a Nitra-Zorb pad 3 days ago to help with ammonia & nitrates. I didn't read anything on the box that said Nitra-Zorb effected pH.)

ammonia: 1.0
nitrite: 0.0
nitrate: 40

Livestock:
1 Minnow, 2 Otocinclus Algae Eaters, 3 Kuhlii Loaches, 6 Flame Von Rio Tetras, 5 Harlequin Rasboras, 2 Threadfin Rainbows, 20+ female Dalmation Platties/Mollies (3 are adults, the rest are babies/fry), 2 Dwarf Gouramis, & 1 male Crowntail Betta.

your lace plant might be going though shock! your sudden rise in ph was 4 marks higher than the species recommendation i'd leave it alone and let it regrow. lace plants are kinda finicky plants. if you want to test rather or not your plant food is affecting the ph buy a ph kit and get a sample of your tank water. plant this fragile plant away from from your filter currents and keep it shaded out of hot light. this plant lacks protective leaf tissue other plants have.

The Madagascar Lace plant is a very nice plant.
I wonder if you could ship one bulb/plant to me in Qatar (arabian gulf).
If this is possible then I will give you my credit card number to expedite shipping.

It depends on what your light levels and nutrient supply are, most likely will though, it is a super hardy plant. Happy fishkeeping!

I agree! I have several different vals that I need to cull at least once a week. They would take over the entire aquarium if given a chance.
  • E.SNYDER - 2013-09-01
DEFINITLY a possibility. I have one in a 60 gallon the tank is 25 inches tall 4 foot long and my val. has grown. From the back it covers some of the top of the tank and it's actually coming down the front of my tank! 1 of the 'arms' as I call them has to be close to 3 feet. It keeps having little babies too. I like it, neat hardy plant. Get one and try it out bud. Good luck.

I added a dwarf lily to my 55 gallon low light tank about 5 weeks ago. Very low light, only 1wpg. Truly impressive plant! Beautiful coloration and within this short amount of time I already have over 20 lily pads on the surface!

After buying one Ruby Melon Swordplant, I ran back the next day to the same pet store and bought two more. They are indeed a beautiful plant. They form a rosette shape for the front or mid-tank area. They have leaves that may remain open, while others have leaves that stay upright. I have had these plants buried in the substrate without fertilizer for about a month and they are lovely. No leaf lose either by fish nibbling or water conditions. If you can find a dealer, get one you will be enthralled with the stripped leaves and variations in colors.
