i have one of these that just takes over the aquarium. it breeds ferociously and even when i take it out of the aquariun it just pops up with new ones. i want to control it better with a social fish that could eat the plant and help keep it under control.

A great plant when tied down to a rock or wood properly and firmly. It took 5 to 6 weeks to root into sandstone, once rooted the string/thread may be untied. Be careful not to plant directly into aquarium substrate as this will rot the roots of your plant. A great easy plant that does not require much effort and will accept very low light levels. New shoots will also sprout from the rhyzome generally quickly, Co2 is not required but can be added. (A GREAT PLANT)! *****

An awesome plant for the aquarium. Its root system that forms beneath each leaf adds an interesting touch. I have mine running vertically up the side of my 75 gallon tank and also horizontally along the bottom. With my light and CO2 set-up, it constantly gives off streams of bubbles.

I often clip sections of it off and transplant into my dad's low-tech 55 gallon. It has done very well, is growing quickly, and looks great.

NO.
It's NOT an actual onion.

It's poisonous if ingested. Most fish and other aquatic life leave it ALONE due to the fact, that it doesn't taste good to them.

I'm not sure if this is the same plant as mondo grass (like you find in your yard), but it looks similar. I've tried planting mondo grass as a widely available, free aquarium plant, and it seems to do well.

Pretty and delicate, and tolerates a wide range of temp. and conditions, it is rightfully named and will cause anarchy if not tamed. This means serious frequent trimming, and inproper propgation will lead to a dense cover on the aquariums top which will prevent you from feeding. Lastly, if you have any underwater crabs (fiddlers, thai), dont use this plant, it is strong, hard to topple, easy to climb, and willingly goes ABOVE the waters surface- giving your fishy friends a perfect excuse to take a dry land vacation.

Being a newbie to fishkeeping, this looked like a good place to start with plants. I bought ten bunches of cabomba, and placed them at the back and corners of the tank. The fish seem to love the fact that they can swim around and through them. I think it stimulates them. I know these live plants have it all over the artificials for appearance. Their whispy texture flows gracefully, and is visually pleasant. Thank you for giving me a selection that even us newbies can enjoy and succeed with.

This plant is the perfect plant if you are looking for easy, fast growth. I have it planted in all types of conditions and it thrives. Even in a goldfish bowl with little light it stays green and healthy.

Every couple months I will shake the main plants in my 20g tank and the little plantlets will release themselves to the top of the water where I can harvest them and plant them around to create a bush effect.

I recently bought micro sword online to add to my 29 Gallon fresh water aquarium. They came in 6 little bunches that looked pretty bad when they came but as they started to mature in my tank they spread like weeds and gave my tank a great natural look. I have a 20 watt POWER-GLO which promotes coral, invertebrate and plant growth. I also added a CO2 defuser to my tank which i feel really promotes plant growth. I am very pleased with the look MicroSword has given my aquarium and would highly recommend this for any planted aquarium.

I feel the same way. If you look around at pet shops you'll notice the differ-ence in condition, sizes and prices of plants. They are slow growing but are very easy to grow. They remain small and make wonderful front plants. If you plant them close together, they fill in nicely. They also wave ever so gently with the current in the tank. "Deborah DeRosa"

Hi I've got a question about that plant. I have got 79.4 Gallon tank no CO2 injection yet, but fine grain Prodac gravel made especially for plants and 160Watt T8 tubes. 3 of them are Osram 840, one is Grolux sylvania for plants and one is Filips Aqua relle. Do you think that in that conditions I can grow sword grass?

lots of people think it makes for untidy looking aqaariums, but i love the charm. If it is happy, it will spread like mad, but is easily scooped out if it gets out of control. It will also shade out plants below it, so plant high light demand plants in areas where surface is disturbed by a filter, which will also push away the duckweed. The fish will appreciate the shade, but duckweed tends to gather in the stillest water of the tank surface, which is also where many people choose to feed their fish. also, unfortunatley, it gets fried in high light situations.

my final advice would be to buy some, and you will find out quickly if this is the plant for you.
