I bought a bubble tip anenome yesterday and woke this morning to a disaster. The anenome had committed suicide. Sometime in the night it crawled into my wave fan and got shredded. Will it come back or is it dead? And when I tried to remove it from my fan, I made it worse. And now my hand feels weird. What can I do, if anything?

That little creature that Nemo has such trouble pronouncing correctly looks like a flower buried on the bottom of the ocean floor. They can be beautiful to look at; less beautiful to come into contact with. Those mesmerizing tentacles that wave back and forth are actually adorned with very unpleasant stinging cells that when you step on them with your foot or brush against them with a bare arm while diving can be just as painful as having a jellyfish slip up your swimsuit and sting your frank and beans. The treatment for a sting provided by a sea anemone is the same as a jellyfish. Avoiding the temptation to rub the affected area, stay away from fresh water, and make that paste or use alcohol.

Hi, we bought a beautifull purple based Magnifica yesterday. The problem is that after the addition I tested the water and the Nitrate was 100ppm! The issue was that the test I had expired and it didn't give high readings at all, but now with the new test I got this high reading. All else is in order, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, ph 8.2, temp 27ºC, Salinity 1.026... We replaced 75 litres of our 250 litre capacity tank after getting the reading but it didn't bring down the reading. Will my Magnifica survive? What else can I do to quickly bring the Nitrate level down?

Yeah, replacing water is one of the easiest ways to get rid of nitrate. Nitrates should be kept low in all reef settings, and water changes are one of the best ways to do it. You didn't say if the anemone was showing any signs of stress, but when you replace 50% of the water, then the amount of nitrate is reduced by half.

Hi, we've done 3 replacements of 75 liters this week and the Nitrate has dropped to 40, will be doing another change tonight. A real surprise but the Anemone is doing great! Hasn't moved and tentacles are inflated and long. Have 2 clowns hosting it and they are totally inlove! :) Going to try feeding the Anemone some Lance fish tonight...

These are a difficult anemone to keep and it is important that you got a healthy anemone to start with. After that, its all about providing an excellent environment and proper care. You mention your water is good, but they do need at least a 50 gallon aquarium that is well established for water stability. They also need strong lighting and regular feedings.

Even though they're gross to feed (you have a fishy smell for the rest of the day, and there's a high probability you didn't feed them all because there is so many), they're actually really cool to look at. I am part of a class and I am studying them. They really produce quickly! And hardy? I checked the solobility in the tank and it was at 40! my teacher and I brought it down from 40, but wow, these things can live just on food or just on light. Both a-sexual and sexual too.

I find lots of info mentioning the brown manjoram anemone, but no real solution. Yes being proactive with quarantine is good, but doesn't solve the problem if they sneak in anyway and start to reproduce..

still looking for a solution to rid them...

I was able to find one of these at a lfs and was so happy I did they are so beautiful. Best anemone for a micro tank since they stay small and don't need a heater. It is very fast eater I have never seen an anemone's head move so fast from one side to the other to eat. The tentacles are very sticky and I don't think a clown could ever use one. I have a lot of small shrimp in my tank and the tentacles are so sticky that if their antenna even touch them he will quickly turn his head and the shrimp is doomed. Also they are so fast when you add some pods in the tank his little ten tentacle tips just pick them of one by one the coolest thing ever to watch. The colors are so intense it is beautiful. If you get a chance to get one do so and set up a species only 5 gallon tank with maybe a kenya tree or some paly's do not pass up the chance to own one of these guys. You can add one in a nano or large tank to just make sure the placement is right because if he goes on the move he will not just sting but eat any corals that stick to his superglue tentacles. A must have for the serious anemone enthusiast but a very rare one to find in certain parts of the world if you live in england you can probably just find one at the lagoons.

I just got a lovely and HUGE Green Bubble tipped anemone with reddish tips on its tentacles. It's gorgeous and is hosting a small Maroon Clownfish that's absolutely adorable! I've been calling him "Little Red" and come to think of it, that sort of Honors Mr. Red Skelton and that is surely something I am highly pleased to do! He filled my childhood with many hours of delight while my family faithfully watched his show every week without fail! I've been naming my Clownfish after famous clowns. My Tomato Clownfish is named "Emmitt" ( I wasn't sure of the spelling ! LOL! ) after the wonderful Emmitt Kelly. My new Anemone is at least 5 inches. I couldn't tell at first just how big it was because it is in a fake rock that I'm currently trying hard to evict it from so I can return it to the store, since it is a very undesired feature! You can imagine my delight when I discovered I'd just gotten a smoking deal ( $20 bucks !! ) on this huge anemone!! GOD I love Petco!! LOL!

I wouldn't trust Petco with purchases on live creatures. Since they don't receive DIRECT shipments, the percentage of receiving a creature with certain ailments (I bought a beautiful Coral Beauty Angelfish, only to see the small white dots, that were invariably Marine Ick, on it,) SKYROCKETS. By the time I treated the water, and did hyposalinity treatments, half of my fish were wiped out. As far as anemones go, I haven't had particular issues with any (Condylactis, Green Bubble Tip, Rosebud, and Sebae anemones.) HOWEVER, keep in mind that parasites can often latch on to anemones (even though they provide no nutrition,) until they find themselves being put into your tank. Remain cautious, and try your best to refrain from purchasing live aquaria from CHAIN stores. Other than that, hope your system is doing well.

We have a pink-tipped anemone at our business. I am not the one who takes care of the two tanks we have, however, I am trying to help find out what would cause it to move up the side of the tank, almost to the top. It almost looks as if it is upside down. We are not sure that there is even a problem. But if it is, then we would like to resolve it as quickly as possible. Thank you for any help that you could give us.

Actually, most corals that can move will do so if they are uncomfortable with their environment. It can be a number of things like water flow, but in your case it would probably be not enough light.
