I have a very sick opossum. We have spent hundreds of dollars and have even traveled to the only exotic vet in our Province. It started with a white spot on his eye and 1 swollen toe then progressed to 3 swollen paws and a slightly swollen tail. We have been giving him an antibiotic oral and topical in his eye and also an antinflamatory eye drop. His paws have gone back to normal but now his tail is very crooked with swollen spots. I have changed his environment to a more humid and warm. I am at a loss and so are all the vets we have seen. We had blood work done and everything came back healthy except an elevated white blood cell count which they said was because of the swelling. Does anyone know what I can do and do opossums have allergies?

How old is your opposum? Maybe you should try changing his food around, it's possible he might be allergic to something you're feeding him?

Help please. I had an adorable broken black lop (family member)who died a month ago. Can't get any answers why. He had mushy poop, so i gave him a bath (have many times). He went flat. would not raise his head. Then called the vet. She didn't know (@!* what?) We took him in kitchen and he ate a carrot and water through dropper. Have it on video. He seemed fine. Then 7hrs later had him in towel all night (afraid to let him down) he shook and died in my arms. I was shocked. Didn't take him to ER cause I thought he was fine after eating. Please HELP, so confused. Lots of crying and lots of guilt. 8+ yrs old.So depressed, i can't stop thinking about him...

I am really sorry to hear about your loss ): my bunny Moo died almost like this but he was only three. All I can say, what I think happened is maybe old age ... rabbits hide their illnesses because in the wild if a predator knows they are sick they will eat them. And if your bunny was outside fliess could have come and and if your bunny had a dirty bottom flies can lay eggs on them and once they hatch they can eat your bunnies insides out (known as a fly strike).  I know it sounds horrible but it can happen.... I'm again very sorry for you ):

I'm sorry to hear that. But first you should know that it's not wise to give lop a bath, because they're so vulnerable and easy to catch cold. And then for bunnies, they can't eat carrots or vegetables cause it's difficult for them to digest and maybe will get enteritis. If you want your lop live longer, you should feed him on alfalfa and as much water as you can. (cold boiled water) As you mentioned that he had mushy poop, there are a lot of possibilities. You'd better take him to the hospital. Finally wish him to live better in a lop planet.

Thank you Mckenzie and Annie for your response and sympathy. Our bunnies are so much a part of our families. I am still so depressed about Bunnybuns since it's spring. We usually let him run around the yard and dig and play with about 7 balls. Holland lops seem to have alot in common. everyone loves them soooo much. I can't find another yet. The black and white are hard to find. I know what i will and wont do after Bunnybuns. We were all so attached to that little guy. I need to find another one soon or i will go nuts...thanks again for your kind words.

Olive my 10 yr old blue fronted has had a stressful few months. Our house was destroyed by Sandy in October. We lived on the beach in Rockaway NY. It was the only home she every knew. I weaned her. She always had her flight wings and would spend alot of time in the kitchen perched on top of the cabinets, also loved looking out the windows bird watching. Overnight we all became homeless. I lucked out and found a pet store ( Animal Kingdom)upstate NY to take her in until I got settled somewhere. The staff there were great they took such good care of her. I visited her whenever I could. I finally was able to take her back last month. Wasnt easy finding some place to live because all of rockaway as homeless and looking for housing. We are living in a basement apartment in Brooklyn. I was so glad to get her reunited with my lab Sam. My question is Why is she losing feathers? She molted in the fall as usual and grew back all new feathers. We have forced air heat here. I kinda think its because the air might be too dry for her. My house had steam heat and also living by the ocean the air was never dry even in the winter. I had her wings clipped because I didnt want her the have an accident in her new surroundings. I started spraying her with water a few times a day it helped, finding less feathers on the floor. Do you think putting a cool mist humidifier by her cage would help? Thank You

read through the information written on the fish on this site.  Some great information.  These fish are not the easiest to care for, so do a lot of research!  Good luck

Tiger Fish are primarily carnivores. They are a predator that in the wild primarily feeds on fish fry and small fishes, small shrimps, crabs, worms, and insect larvae. In the aquarium their main diet consists of smaller fish although they can sometimes be coaxed into eating shrimp, worms or insects. One look at their large mouth will tell you that small tank mates will disappear quickly. They are not aggressive towards other species but will attempt to eat any fish that will fit into their mouth.

Hi, we bought a beautifull purple based Magnifica yesterday. The problem is that after the addition I tested the water and the Nitrate was 100ppm! The issue was that the test I had expired and it didn't give high readings at all, but now with the new test I got this high reading. All else is in order, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, ph 8.2, temp 27ÂșC, Salinity 1.026... We replaced 75 litres of our 250 litre capacity tank after getting the reading but it didn't bring down the reading. Will my Magnifica survive? What else can I do to quickly bring the Nitrate level down?

Yeah, replacing water is one of the easiest ways to get rid of nitrate. Nitrates should be kept low in all reef settings, and water changes are one of the best ways to do it. You didn't say if the anemone was showing any signs of stress, but when you replace 50% of the water, then the amount of nitrate is reduced by half.

Hi, we've done 3 replacements of 75 liters this week and the Nitrate has dropped to 40, will be doing another change tonight. A real surprise but the Anemone is doing great! Hasn't moved and tentacles are inflated and long. Have 2 clowns hosting it and they are totally inlove! :) Going to try feeding the Anemone some Lance fish tonight...

Can sugar gliders live in a 3ft tall glass tank by 2 ft wide with a mesh top. It's kitted out with branches, parrot toys, nesting boxes and pouches ?

From the 'environment' section above, you can see that the size of your glass tank should offer plenty of space, especially with all the decor you've provided for these active little critters. They do like attention as well as activity, so may want to come out of the cage to play as well.

It's really awesome to have birds in the backyard, and finches are great. I feed finches, but also have a larger feeder that is flat and open, so smaller doves (ringneck dove and mourning doves) visit regularly too. Nice site too Susan, good luck with your store!

We've had ours for over 40 years now - some parrots like to be placed next to a window so it keeps them looking at things and quiet. Others like to be covered, not ours. After 40 years we are beginning to wonder who will outlive who! We give him people food, steak and potatoes, green peas are a favorite, nuts in the shell, his home has very course abrasive paper on it to keep his nails and beak trimmed. He is quite the bird! So keep yours amused and not bored they should quiet down. We'd love to have another one but they are hard to find. We got ours cage and all for $100 back in 1971!
