My mom and I had a parakeet named AL he would say pig, beast, boopers, come here, give me, what?,give me kiss, tootie, come here, and dizzy. We lost him August 26,2003 due to my mother accidentally sitting on him without knowing he was on the love seat. We got a new one that was captive bred and he is already doing some things close to the other bird. We made a dvd disc from a camcorder tape for him to watch and he listens to it and whistles to it.

I have had a Jack Dempsey for a while now. They are quite aggresive to my Red Devil and 4 blue Acaras. Though he is quite friendly to my two firemouths. They are beautiful fish that need intense care.

They are somewhat aggresive when they get more than 4 inches. You can keep them in the community tank, but when they grow larger move them with similar size fish, because they MIGHT start messing with small fish like neons and some liveberears.

Very good fish, active and good cleaners of algea and leftover food. They like clean water and warm temperatures, Buy more than one because they get lonely. Very hardy and doesnt develop any diseases. Very strong, if something happens to your tank they will be the last to know because they are very strong and can withstand a lot of stuff.

Like the INFO says, this fish is unusual and cool. When someone looks at you tank they are most likely to say WHAT IS THAT? The fish is not very active in the day, provide a lot of plants and hiding places where they could hide. During the night when most fish are still this fish will most likely go around for food. get only one because they get big and take up space, but on the other hand they dont move much, and are a great addition to any aquarium!

Not for the average fish keeper. You need a large tank to keep this bad boy.

Very peaceful and good for community tanks. Excellent for small aquariums starting from 10 gallons. They will not bother other fish, sometimes males might get territorial, and only sometimes they become fin nippers and attck fishes like angels and bettas. Keep 2 females and one male, thats the best combo i have found.

Why do PETCO and PETSMART keep this fish in small cups? Isnt that bad for the poor fish? But agin males WILL fight, and there is not a lot of space in the store.
BUT, when YOU buy it keep it in a 1 gallon + container.
In a one gallon container their lifespan is 3-7 months, in a cup (just like in PETCO) its around 4-6 weeks, and in a 5 gallon or bigger aquarium thay can really display their fins and colors, and can live up to 3-4 YEARS!

Dont get a male and a female in one tank, they will breed like crazy! And when you breed them careful with colors because if you mess up, the fish will be dull looking with no color, and some petshops will not buy them from you , or they will use them as feeders for larger fish. AND when you want to breed them for yourself keep the good ones and release the bad ones in the community tank so the other fish will snack on them, sounds mean, but thats better than throwing them away. You can also seperate the male and females of the fry when they get around 2-4 weeks old because then THEY will start to breed again. I suggest using a net divider in the small fry tank.

You can breed these fish and then raise the fry keep some for yourself and sell some to small pet shops for in store credit. Very cool fish, you can mix colors and make different patterns with the generations of your original mix.
