I bought 2 pairs of platies (Marigold Wagtail) and realised it was best to put each pair in separate tanks. The males tend to be aggressive with each other. I kept a pair at a quiet corner of my room, and occasionally fed them with tubifex worms and bloodworms as a treat. A driftwood, a simple filtering system together with pebbles were provided. Many many months later, the MOTHER platy is still around -- though the FATHER is dead -- which proves that platies can have a long lifespan too, and really grow to 7cm.

Its brilliantly colored colours often attract admiration from its owners but danger from its other tank mates. I have personally caught Tetras red-handed nibbling at its tail~! I honestly believe that Guppies are best kept with its own species. A dozen or more males will look really mesmerizing. Best to keep 1 male & 2 females, or 2 males & 4 females, for breeding purposes and provide driftwood for the babies to take refuge at, or have the babies transferred to another tank.

Remember to cover the top of your tank -- they are prone to jump out~! Avoid giving them a complete change of freshwater.

Very pleased to say that i captured a specimen of this butterfly.
location : Durban, North Pier, South Africa.
Date of capture : 31st August 2003.
Size : approx 6cm in length.
Method of capture : Snorkel, mask and hand held net. Regulations here do not allow for capture of fish with scuba gear. ( licence is required to capture and keep local marine specimens )

comment : Local name as per Smiths Fishes is a Gorgeous Gussy. I put the fish into my main display tank shortly after arriving home from the dive, within two hours the fish was pecking at the Tetra-bits i had put in the tank.
The following morning the fish was eating a bit of the Tetra-bits, six days later he has made his presence in the tank well known to the other occupants and fights vigorously
for food.

I love my parakeet, Huckle. He is such a cutie. When my grandma bought me a mirror for him, the next few days he was swinging on his mirror like it was a swing! Also, when I turn on my stereo, he will chirp like he is singing. Parakeets are the best pets anyone can ever have. Especially for girls. A while back, he stared whistling at me. Like when I put my make-up on, he will chirp and whistle. I love parakeets. I even like cockateils. They are so cute, but I heard they are messy, mean, and louder than a parakeet. Tropical birds are the best!

It is always necessary to have bottom feeders for community tanks, as they work to help you rid your tank of any leftovers. They are highly recommended due to their beautiful appearance, their gentle behaviour, and adorable looks. Avoid adding to tanks with quiet & still fishes, as their active nature will probably be offensive.

Am so obsessed with them! I have tanks with only cories as they are so enchanting.

The more cories there are, the better! Avoid driftwoods with holes as they do get stuck -- mine did! Albino cories looks very classic and when you are feeling down -- they cheer you up by winking at you. Extremely gentle and loves company from other similar sized species. Breeding proves difficult though... A must for all community tanks~!

Must feed them on a variety of food.

Avoid keeping them with sensitive fishes (discus, etc), and away from sunlight.

I had intended my blue damsel just as a starter fish , but as time progressed I became fond of the little starter fish. I do not have a large tank , so adding another fish is not an option. I am not sure whether to keep the damsel or the get another fish. Any advise would be helpful.

My blue face angel does very well. the secret to keeping
one is to watch it at the pet store for a week or two.
If it keeps its color after 2 weeks, its usually ok. I
keep a emperor, blue face, and yellow bar together, and
the blue face is my favorite.
