Today I bought a medium sized comet and a medium sized blackmoor. I added them to my tank which was already home to a redcap and a shubunkin. My comet which is yet to be named is very crazy as he was jumping around in the bad desperate to be free. He/She is really slender and beautiful. I enjoy watching my 4 fishes swimming around.

I have been breeding this species for a while now. I love them and believe them to be one of the best tropical fish available. The fish are quite agressive but (normally) only towards each other and it never gets too nasty, just a bit of chasing and nudging etc. I notice when I remove a male for breeding the other must re-arrange the ranking order in the tank (Who is most dominant etc) and so when the breeding is over and he is re-introduced there is always a lot of flared fins and tail slapping etc, this only last an hour or so and I have never seen any fish become injured due to this, one of them always seems to back off before it gets that bad. My advice is dont remove them too quickly, watch them and you will see the violence stop as soon as the Alpha male is decided and the rankings are agreed by the other tankmates. After that you will just see the highest ranked fish chasing the others from time to time and they always run away. Good Luck. Steve...

QUICK BREEDING TIP: I have noticed I get better breeding results from choosing a male that is not very high in the ranking order (The one that always runs away and doesnt fight). This is because he will spend more time on the nest than the high ranking males. They normally spend 95% of their time chasing the female and only 5% building. The lower ranking male tends to ignore the female for longer periods of time and puts the nest toghether quicker and better.

(Dont get me wrong he does still chase the female away etc as this is natural).

I have 2 yellow cichlids of opposite sex-and one fry- who is about 1/4 in long. There is a numerous amount of rocks of various sizes, and there are 5 or 6 caves of various sizes.
When I started changing the water on a weekly basis about, 40% out at a time, they started breeding- I have been watching them this week and the female just set up a place for her eggs where i cannot see them - but I know she no longer has her eggs in her mouth. There was another female, but she died just recently, I never did find her but when I was looking for her, I found the baby in between some rocks. they have given me alot of enjoyment and are very peaceful with the other cichlids in the tank. I have a 65 gallon plexiglass tank.

I have a Rainbow Lory named Jester (aprox 5 yrs old now)who is awesome. I bought her in a pet store (who is a most awesome store for birds in our area) aprox 3 years ago where she was left by a former owner. Jester was very cage territorial when first purchased. With alot of work (and battle worn hands mind you!!), Jester proved those problems could be overcome. Jester has a minimum vocab of 20 - 25 words/phrases with picking up new ones each year. The potential to learn seems wide open for Jester. Jester is a clown and an able bodied acrobat who has lots of love in her heart. Anyone who passes a lory over due to the report of the mess that comes with a lory (which can be contained with the use of a blanket or sheet over most of the cage ... throw in washer ... viola ... mess gone!!) is very short sighted and loses the chance to share their life with an outstanding companion bird.

We have had Zeus, our female cockatoo, since she was a baby ... her feathers were just coming in .. boy she was ugly! LOL We allowed the pet store to wean her until she dropped her lunch meal then I took her home and hand fed her the rest of the way. She is now aprox 3 going on 4 years now. She is the sweetest bird a person could ask for. She is not usual in the cockatoos as in that she is not a big yeller .. although when she actually does decide to scream she makes up for all her past silence ... right now she is over preening herself so we are trying to discover why she is doing this. But she is a big baby and would suggest to anyone looking for a snuggle bird to consider the Umbi ... but please research your purchase and understand the cockatoo before purchasing.
